Assignment
Founded in 2001, the APEDEC brings together the French experts working in the field of
ecodesign, whether they are designers, teachers and researchers. Its main purpose is to provide, through
collective exchanges, outputs on practices related to ecodesign. The goal is to assist in the definition of the
conceptual framework, methodology and ethics, and to promote good practice, with the leitmotiv :
Integrating life cycle thinking as early as possible within the design of goods and services.

Utilisation
On 18 th November 2011, APEDEC organizes a morning dedicated to eco-design in Paris from 9
AM to 1 PM in Arts and Craft Museum : Is ecodesign a sustainable investment? "Crossroads between
engineers and designers." Two round tables discussions are planned: one dealing with ecodesign from the
point of view of engineers and the other one dealing with ecodesign from the point of view of the

Actions
- The Student Prize "Zero Waste Design 2012"
In the context of its mission to raise awareness among the general public, SYCTOM set up the first
student prize "Zero Waste Design 2012" in partnership with APEDEC. The Student Prize is dedicated to
students with a background in design and students with a background in ecodesign. The purpose of this
competition is to raise awareness about the ecodesign approach for products or services. The LCA of
projects will be done in order to assess their environmental impacts.
- Ecodesign solidarity industry in Montreuil
APEDEC is one of the winners of the call for initiatives for a sustainable city of Montreuil city, and
as such is creating a local supply of ecodesign solidarity. Various activities are planned including arts
associations and industrial sectors, through local expertise in design and ecodesign, and build the link with
the actors of the social economy
- DGCIS mission of Orée
APEDEC participates in the "North Pole", gathering Ile-de-France, Nord-Pas de Calais and
Picardy, led by Orée association, on the basis of the mission DGCIS (Directorate General of
competitiveness of the industry and services) of the Ministry of Economy, who wishes to have a diagnosis
of areas involved in ecodesign.
- Training studies in ecodesign
APEDEC has conducted two surveys for ADEME (the French EPA) on ecodesign lectures within
Universities and Engineer schools throughout France. The reader will find in the final reports the analysis
of business and the details of the main courses in France. The last version has been released last
September 2011. Each year new courses integrating ecodesign are emerging, which shows the
development of this area.
