MJ / MJ of fuel. The value of fuel consumption is the same than for pure vegetable oils used as fuel.<br />

Consumption of renewable energy is better than for MEWCO. The tendency is the same regarding to<br />

photochemical oxidation potential (3,5.10-5 kg eq. C2H4/MJ of fuel) and human toxicity (1,9.10-3 kg eq.<br />

DCB / MJ fuel). Concerning eutrophication potential, the value is similar to MEWCO (7,9.10-5 kg eq.<br />

PO43-/MJ of fuel). Only for greenhouse gas emissions WCO are slightly more high (1,55.10-2 CO2eq/MJ<br />

of fuel). All these results can be improved. Indeed, such factors as the type of treatment plant used for<br />

wastewater, allocations corresponding to the proportion of collected oil actually used for production and<br />

more accurate engine tests results. In addition, some mechanical parameters have not been considered in<br />

this study. For example, the use of oil in the engine without transformation is quite easy for earlier diesel<br />

engines but more difficult on common rail engines and sometimes some modification on engines. In<br />

addition, it would be necessary to assess the potential impact of these changes on the engine lifespan.<br />

3) Biological WCO process treatment<br />

Gecco, ProBioGEM and PC2A are collaborating on the development of an innovative treatment<br />

process to convert waste into biofuel. This process presents environmental constraints and a LCA is made<br />

to reach these constraints. Many data are currently lacking to describe fully and consistently this process in<br />

a LCA. A first approach by introducing a product A in the previous LCA for the direct use of the WCO<br />

shows that the renewable energy consumption would be multiplied by four and the value of other<br />

parameters would be multiplied by two or three.<br />

The LCA will allow I evaluating the impact of substances used in the process and operating<br />

conditions and therefore will be used as a tool for developing the process to obtain the best compromise<br />

between biofuel performance and environmental impact.<br />
