helpful to study the three above mentioned cases which will widen the scope
of application of this new technique.
Aim and objective
The aim of our study was to improve the assessment of fœtal prognosis
in high risk pregnancies particularly in cases of preeclampsia, intrauterine
growth retardation and hydramnios.
Our general objective was to use the umbilical Doppler to assess fœtal
prognosis in preeclampsia, intrauterine growth retardation and hydramnios.
Methodology
To attain our goal, we sampled 52 high risk pregnancies from the 28 th
weel< of amenorrhoea. Our sampling was consecutive and not based on
probability in a longitudinal and analytic sUIVey. This survey was conducted
in Yaounde over a period of 14 months. The sUIVey did not include patients
who could not be monitored in Yaounde or those with multiple pregnancies.
The survey aimed at determining among the patients sampled, the
POURCELOT index [IRP = (S-D)/S) and the pulsatility index [IP = (S-D)/M] of
the umbilical artery using the umbilical Doppler. The perinatal data was
then correlated with the finding of the Doppler test in order to assess fœtal
prognosis.
Results
Our patients were aged between 16 to 44 with the average being 31
years. We performed 58 Doppler tests on 52 high-risk pregnancies (27 cases
of preeclampsia, 15 cases of hydramnios, 9 cases of intrauterine growth
retardation (IUGR) and one case of preeclampsia combined with intrauterine
growth retar(lation) and obtained 12 pathological cases for which the two
