Secretary-General. This is specially important with those who do not see the world in the same way as we
do. AAFI-AFICS will do its best never to turn away from this important aspect of our responsibilities; future
issues of the Bulletin will not forget this.
As for the famous ‘bread and butter’ issues, well, the fight can never end. We will conduct it with our
colleagues from other members of the Federation (FAFICS) and with those in Geneva who belong to our
working groups. We have often spoken about this in the Bulletin. This applies to the consolidation and
improvement of our system of pensions and thus to the maintenance of our purchasing power; also to the
constant reinforcement of our health protection schemes. I want to stress the degree to which the members
of the Committee of AAFI-AFICS constitute a solid and competent team. It is my responsibility to set out with
them the most ambitious objectives possible for our members; and to maintain the stamina such as that of
long distance runners, to attain them. It is above all about this that I wish to talk to you today.
Ed.Ch: Will there be any time left for yourself? What do you do when you are not working for the members
of AAFI-AFICS?
J.-J. C: You see, I have the good fortune of having a wife who is herself ‘one of us’: she’s been with
UNESCO, UNDP, HCR. So it won’t either impress or upset her to see me thus committed. Quite the
contrary. And I will keep on with my hobbies. Which? Well, for example, travel (long distance), aviation
(light), cooking (my own), painting (that of others), visiting Burgundy the land of my forefathers and so many
other things… But also I will remain as close as possible to my family, somewhat dispersed like so many
others in our community. Will some of my grandchildren become the Second Generation that you
discovered through the Bulletin and an AAFI-AFICS publication? Just imagine! My last grandchild has four
grandparents of four different nationalities…This might encourage him, don’t you think?
This interview will appear at a time when we exchange all sorts of good wishes. I send to all members of our
Association and their near ones, the hope that 2004 will be a year of serenity and peace!
