Caro bunker e privatizzazione Tirrenia:
il settore ro-pax resta alla finestra
Può darsi che, mentre leggete
queste pagine, Tirrenia sia già
stata venduta (o dichiarata fallita)
e sui contributi pubblici).
Nel frattempo, però, essendo in fieri
anche la privatizzazione delle controllate
regionali di Tirrenia, la bonaccia
sembra farla da padrona, con il solo
WAIT AND SEE FOR ITALY’S RO-PAX
Fuel costs and the privatisation of Tirrenia are keeping
the Italian ro-pax sector on hold. By the time you have
read this article Tirrenia may well have been sold or declared
bankrupt bringing to an end the long drawn out
affair of the Company and its regional subsidiaries.
High fuel costs rising again as a result of the situation
in North Africa have been the principal cause of a
number of changes in the ro-pax business.
Moby has cancelled its Toulon/Bastia line which started
last year not just because of fuel costs but also because
of non-payment of subsidies by the Corsica Region.
The ferry used on the rout now joins Moby Freedom
and Moby Wonder on the Civitavecchia/Olbia line
where Moby has signed a code sharing agreement with
SNAV valid from June 1.
Corsica Ferries subsidiary Strada Blu has also made
cuts by suspending its Olbia/Livorno service despite
having recently won court approval for the line. MD Vir-
22 - aprile 2011
caro-bunker ad agitare il settore ro-pax
come uno spauracchio. E non a caso
è stata proprio la dinamica del prezzo
del carburante, accelerata dalla crisi
nordafricana, la causa principale di alcuni
dei principali movimenti degli ultimi
mesi.
Olbia e Livorno, peraltro proprio poche
settimane dopo aver avuto ragione dal
TAR a proposito di un contenzioso con
l’Autorità Portuale del Nord Sardegna
riguardante gli accosti da questa concessile.
Anche in questo caso l’amministratore
delegato Virgilio Cimaschi
gilio Comaschi explained “Although the court found in
our favour the damages awarded were much less than
the damage we suffered. An additional case is in front of
the court regarding the availability of a ticket office in the
Olbia passenger terminal and fuel costs have now made
the line unprofitable”. One of the vessels involved, an 80
passenger and 1,900 lane meter ro-pax Strada Corsa has
been chartered to Moby for use on the same line which
Moby has operated for some time.
Corsica Ferries has been assigned three slots on the
Piombino/Portoferraio line although MD Euan Lenmon
says that they will not necessarily be accepted. He explained
“The Authority informed us that our request for
many more than 3 slots will be partially rejected and we
maintain that with 3 slots the line will not be profitable.
However we are hopeful that a solution is found before
our June appeal is heard”. These slots would bring Corsica
Ferries back to Olbia after an absence of some years
and disagreements over the allegedly dominant position
of Toremar and Moby.
