five meters in height and fifteen in length, intended
for the exhibition in Naples, where Burri
also showed the Combustion.
AA: Yes, in that shed, where we froze to
death! That time I demanded the help of an
assistant, which Burri agreed to readily. To
convey the scale of the work I asked him to
stand near the Crack. I’d have preferred to
photograph Burri alongside his work, but we
both know how loth he was to appear in pictures!
Then I followed him to Capodimonte
to document the whole exhibition. Of course
Nemo was there too and among the artists
I remember Melotti [Fausto] e Portoghesi
[Paolo] .
Valley, etc... Il suo sogno era di fare, tutti insieme,
il viaggio Coast to Coast che non fu possibile
realizzare per l’aggravarsi delle sue condizioni
di salute.
Tu sei andato a trovarlo negli Stati Uniti?
AA: Mi recai a Los Angeles solo per due o
tre giorni. Per lavoro ero andato a New York
e Washington e avevo portato tutta la mia
famiglia, così decisi di fare una tappa in più
per vedere Burri: gli feci una sorpresa e lui
ne fu felicissimo.
CS: Il 1978 per Burri è l’anno della grande retrospettiva
al Solomon Guggenheim Museum di
New York. Al rientro dall’avventura newyorkese
accompagnasti mio padre dall’aeroporto all’u-
