Ik ben een vroege mens en maak bijna altijd het blauwe uur mee.
Dat is het licht een uur voor zonsopkomst, voor de dag begint.
Alles neemt een blauwe kleur aan en er is een duidelijk contrast
tussen de lucht en de wereld. Het blauwe uur duurt zo’n tiental
minuten en doet mij dromen. Veel kunstenaars hebben dit
unieke moment van de dag proberen te pakken. Zo werd
Jan Fabre erdoor geïnspireerd en probeerde het met zijn typische
Bic-tekeningen te vangen. Voor mij houdt het blauwe uur telkens
veel belofte in, want een volledige dag met verrassingen komt er aan.
Toen ik de eerste draft van dit jaarboek 2012 van Vlaamse circusgezelschappen
zag, kreeg ik het warme gevoel van het blauwe uur.
Niet minder dan 63 circusartiesten en -gezelschappen worden
erin voorgesteld. Het creatieve circusveld is echt aan het groeien
– in de vorige editie stonden er 39. Beloftevol dus, met de blauwe
gloed dat dit nog maar het begin is. Ik kijk uit naar wat de circusdag
brengt.

Le cirque à l’heure bleue
The blue circus hour

Etant très matinal j’ai presque toujours le privilège de me réveiller
à l’heure bleue. Tous les matins, une heure avant le lever du soleil,
l’univers baigne dans le bleu et le flou de l’air se dissipe pour faire
place au ciel et à la terre. L’heure bleue ne dure que quelques dix
minutes mais elle me fait rêver. Bien des artistes essaient d’accrocher
ce moment éphémère du lever du jour. Jan Fabre en fut inspiré:
ses dessins caractéristiques au Bic en sont la preuve. Pour moi
l’heure bleue est chargée de promesses car elle nous annonce
une journée pleine de surprises.
La lecture du concept de l’annuaire 2012 des compagnies de cirque
flamandes m’a ainsi procuré ce même frisson émerveillé de l’heure
bleue. Pas moins de 63 artistes et compagnies de cirque y sont
présentés. L’édition précédente en comportait 39: le champ créatif
du cirque est donc en pleine croissance et renferme toutes les
promesses de l’heure bleue.
Voilà pourquoi j’attends avec impatience les révélations
de la journée circassienne.
I’m an early bird that usually witnesses the blue hour. That’s the light
an hour before sunrise, before the day begins. Everything is covered
in blue and there’s a distinct contrast between the sky and the earth.
The blue hour lasts about ten minutes and makes me dream. Lots of
artists have attempted to grasp this unique moment of the day. Jan
Fabre was inspired by the blue hour and tried to grasp the moment in
his typical Bic-drawings. To me the blue hour seems promising every
time because it’s the start of a new day full of surprises.
When I saw the first draft of this yearbook 2012 of Flemish circus
companies, I got the warm feeling of the blue hour. 63 circus artists
and companies are introduced. Circus is really growing – in the
previous edition 39 were mentioned. Very promising, the blue glow
that this is just the beginning. I long for what the circus day brings.

Alexander Vantournhout leerde als jongere diabolo en jongleren en
ontdekt de dan nog vrij nieuwe discipline van roue cyr (enkel rad).
In 2009 studeert hij af aan de Brusselse circushogeschool ESAC
(Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque). Momenteel volgt hij les
aan PARTS, de dansschool van de internationaal gerenommeerde
choreografe Anne Teresa Dekeersmaeker. Hij creëert zowel
conceptueel werk als pure dans- en circusperformance. Samen met
muzikant en performanceartiest Niko Hafkenscheid onderzoekt
Vantournhout de mogelijkheden van het nieuwe Tanztheater en
le nouveau cirque.
En 2009, Alexander Vantournhout termine ses études à l’ESAC,
l’Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque, où il s’est spécialisé dans la roue
cyr. De nos jours il suit les cours de l’école de danse PARTS d’Anne
Therésa Dekeersmaeker, choréographe de renommée internationale.

Don’t run away, John! (2012) – NIEUWE CREATIE –
De indeling van de theatrale ruimte staat centraal in deze
voorstelling waarin de danser, de muzikant en het enkel rad
een voor iedereen herkenbaar verhaal over de ‘innerlijke stem’
of ‘intuïtie’ vertellen. De toeschouwer ziet schijnbaar losse
herinneringen plots samenvallen binnen de ruimte waarin
ze samen zijn ontstaan. Première februari 2012.
La disposition de l’espace théâtral est primordiale dans cette
représentation où danseur, musicien et roue cyr nous content
une histoire facile à reconnaître: celle de ‘la voix intérieure’
ou de ‘l’intuition’.
This performance focuses on the lay-out of the theatrical space
in which dancer, musician and roue cyr tell a universal story
about ‘intuition’ or ‘the inner voice’.

The Owls (2012) – NIEUWE CREATIE –
‘The Owls’ is een terugkeer naar de basiselementen van het
geheugen en het spel. Muzikant en diabolospeler delen het
verlangen om op zoek te gaan naar hun oorspronkelijke en
elementairste levenslust. Première februari 2012.
Musicien et joueur de diabolo partagent le même souhait:
la recherche de la joie de vivre la plus élémentaire et la plus
authentique grâce aux éléments de base de la mémoire et du jeu.
Musician and diabolo player share the desire to experience the lust
for life at its fullest by using basic elements of memory and game.

Another day at the office (2010)
Het begint als een doorsnee dag op kantoor, maar een mysterieus
pakket brengt daarin verandering. Gelukkig is er de bijgevoegde
handleiding om meer duidelijkheid te verschaffen. Of niet? ‘Another
day at the office’ is een krachtige voorstelling waarin humor en
de kunst van het jongleren hand in hand gaan.
Cela commence par un jour comme il y en a tant, mais un
mystérieux paquet change tout. Heureusement qu’il existe un
manuel pour éclaircir les choses. Ou pas? ‘Another day at the
office’ est une représentation pleine d’énergie qui combine
l’humour à l’art de la jonglerie.
What gets off as a normal day at the office, changes when a
mysterious package arrives. Luckily there’s a manual to go with.
Or not? ‘another day at the office’ is a powerful performance
that combines humour and the art of juggling.

BabaFish is een internationaal dans- en circuscollectief, dat in 2009
in Brussel werd opgericht door drie jonge danseressen/acrobates.
Anke Bucher (Duitsland), Michela Henle (Zwitserland) en Anna
Nilsson (Zweden) houden van verhalen en vertellen die in een geheel
eigen stijl waarbij hedendaagse dans, circus, muziek en film ingezet
wordt in de creatie van fysieke en vaak bevreemdende tableaus.
Les trois danseuses/acrobates de BabaFish adorent les histoires et
elles les racontent à leur façon en combinant la danse contemporaine,
le cirque, la musique et le cinema.

I, Misstress and Wife (2011)
Dit is het verhaal van drie vrouwen: I, Mistress & Wife. Alle drie
zijn ze deel van dezelfde vrouw. Ze confronteren elkaar en stellen
elkaar in vraag, maar hebben elkaar ook nodig om samen één
geheel te vormen, een karakter vol tegenstellingen. Deze eerste
creatie van BabaFish combineert hedendaagse dans, luchtacrobatie,
muziek en cinema in een abstract decor. BabaFish is
één van de laureaten van Jeunes Talents Cirque Europe 2010.
Première was in september 2011.

confrontent, elles ont besoin les unes des autres. Cette première
création de Babafish combine la danse contemporaine, l’acrobatie,
la musique et le cinéma dans un decor abstrait. Lauréat Jeunes
Talents Cirque Europe 2010.

Bert Loenders en Frederique Snoeks zijn van jongs af aan begeesterd
door circus. Ze ontmoeten elkaar in het circusatelier Circ-o-Fun
in Neerpelt in 2003 en gaan ook samen verder bij Ell Circo d’ell
Fuego in Antwerpen. In juni 2011 studeren ze af aan de circushogeschool
ACaPA (Academy for Circus and Performance Arts) in
het Nederlandse Tilburg. Het jonge acrobatieduo is gefascineerd door
de performance art en gebruikt die invloed in zijn circusacts. Samen
met circusartiest Danny Vrijsen vormen ze ook Kluster (zie p. 98)
Bert Loenders et Frédérique Snoeks terminent leurs études à ACaPA
(Academy for Circus and Performance Arts) à Tilburg en 2011. Ce duo
acrobatique est fasciné par l’art performance, ce qui influence leur
représentation de cirque.

I start to like you (2011)
Een koppel. Zij is de dominante, hij de meegaande clown. Ze delen
hun fascinatie voor absurde humor en gevaar. Het tarten van
evenwicht en balanceren op het randje van een afgrond. De
precisie van het mikken en de angst van het vangen. Ze schenken
elkaar vertrouwen. Onderweg passeert een dartspijl en een
watermeloen. Dit is geen theater, dit is de echtheid van het
moment. Dit is geen illusie, dit is de waarheid van objecten en
techniek. Dit is ‘I start to like you’!
Un couple. Elle est dominante, il est docile. Ils partagent une
fascination pour l’absurde et le danger. Ceci n’est pas une illusion,
c’est la réalité!

Entr’actes (2011)
Deze korte typerende tussenstukjes van Bert & Fred zijn ideaal
om tussen verschillende acts in een avondvullend programma
te plaatsen. Komisch. Beetje gevaarlijk. Beetje uitdagend.
De brefs entractes: l’interlude parfait pour une soirée pleine de
divertissements. Comique. Légèrement dangereux. Légèrement
provocatif.

vivant!

Vier verdwaalden hebben zich samen gezet, het is een goed
afgestemd kwartet. De intimiteiten openbaren zich. Het Carré
glijdt, valt uiteen, herschrijft zich, om vervolgens weg te zweven…
‘t is complex…. Curieus…!
Carré Curieux, Cirque Vivant! speelt ook korte acts in solo,
duo of kwartet.
Ce quatuor, uni par une fraternité insolite, nous interroge: quel
regard porte-t-on sur les défauts de l’autre, comment assume-t-on
les siens?
The unusual brotherhood of this quartet questions us: what does
each think of the others’ failings, and how does one come to terms

Cie Azeïn is een nieuw Belgisch-Frans circusgezelschap. Sam Hannes
(porteur) en Audrey Louwet (voltigeuse) studeerden in 2010 af aan de
Franse circushogeschool CNAC (Centre National des Arts du Cirque).
Hun instrument is het Carré, een speciaal soort cadré aérien. Hun
fysieke taal spreekt over menselijke relaties, macht en
verleidingskracht.
Issus du CNAC, Sam Hannes (porteur) et Audrey Louwet (voltigeuse)
forment la Cie Azeïn. Leur agrès est un Carré, un cadre aérien à quatre
directions qui permet de voltiger en circulaire. Leur travail s’articule
autour des relations humaines, des rapports de pouvoir et de
séduction.

La vie tendre et cruelle des animaux sauvages (2011)
Samen met percussionist Thomas Deckx brengt Cie Azeïn een
voorstelling met spectaculaire luchtacrobatie. ‘La vie tendre et
cruelle des animaux sauvages’ belicht met humor, woede en
tederheid menselijke relaties en onderzoekt de link tussen dier
en mens, ruimte en macht.
Cie Azeïn présente avec la colloboration du percussioniste Thomas
Deckx une performance spectaculaire pleine d’acrobatie aérienne.
‘La vie tendre et cruelle des animaux sauvages’ s’agit des relations
humaines et recherche le lien entre l’homme et l’animal.

Cie Baladeu’x – Toon Schuermans en France Perpête – is ontstaan
vanuit het verlangen om dans en jonglerie te verweven tot een unieke
en nieuwe vorm. Dit resulteert in een specifieke bewegingstaal waarin
elk individu zijn eigen identiteit en karakter behoudt, maar waar de
bewegingen van beide kunsten niet langer gescheiden kunnen
worden.
L’origine de la Cie Baladeu’x est le désir de réunir la danse et la
jonglerie dans un spectacle unique et innovateur.

Hans Vanwynsberghe begon met jongleren aan zijn vijftiende. Vier
jaar later werd hij jongleerdocent en nog later tovert hij zichzelf om
van professioneel jongleur tot allround clown. Jef Scheepers speelt
muziek sinds zijn achtste en zet zijn eerste stappen in het
straattheater met de groep Moustash. Cie Balltazar wordt opgericht
in 2003, het jaar van Vanwynsberghes solovoorstelling ‘Bonbon’.
Scheepers vervoegt het gezelschap in 2009.

De ballen van Balltazar (2009)
In deze humoristische woordeloze voorstelling trachten twee
Roemeense ‘zigeuners’ het publiek te overrompelen door steeds
grotere jongleerballen op scène te brengen. ‘De Ballen van
Balltazar’ brengt een mix van live muziek, jonglerie, koordlopen,
evenwichtsladder, acrobatie en magie.
Deze voorstelling wordt ook aangeboden als schoolvoorstelling.
De slappe touw act uit de voorstelling wordt ook als afzonderlijke
korte act aangeboden.
Dans cette représentation muette pleine d’humour, deux ‘gitanes’
roumains veulent surprendre le public en mettant en scène des
balles de jongleries de plus en plus grandes.
In this wordless yet humorous performance, two Romanian gipsy’s

Na hun opleiding aan de circushogeschool ESAC in Brussel en het
Stedelijk Instituut voor Dans in Antwerpen, spelen Régis Leroy en
Ingrid Swaelens in producties van Feria Musica, Cirque du Soleil en
Bud Blumenthal om uiteindelijk hun eigen gezelschap Cie du Mirador
op te richten. Een succes zo blijkt, want met hun productie ‘Isséo’
winnen ze in 2006 zowel de juryprijs als de prijs van het publiek

Kilang (2012) – NIEUWE CREATIE –
De aarde draait en haar rotatie vergezelt het avontuur. Dans,
jongleren, Chinese mast, benji-elastiek en doek komen aan bod
op een bijzonder roterend plateau dat een mogelijkheid biedt tot
een 360° speelvlak.
Een eerste presentatie van de openluchtversie (circa 45 min.) is
voorzien voor eind mei 2012. De zaalversie wordt gepresenteerd

In 2008 richten circusartiesten Bram Dobbelaere, broers Sander

expressievorm en bepaalt voor een groot stuk het vocabularium van

Vier jongleurs, gevangen in een krimpend oppervlak. De ruimte
verkleint, elke vorm van intimiteit verdwijnt en de aanwezigheid
van de anderen is zowel een vloek als een zegen. De verplichte
samenwerking is niet alleen deel van de oplossing maar ook van
het probleem. Dit heeft immers een grote invloed op ieders gedrag
en manier van jongleren. ‘m²’ confronteert vier mensen bruusk
en onafwendbaar met hun angst voor de gevolgen van het gebrek
aan leefruimte.
Op vraag van het internationaal gerenommeerde festival Cirque
de Demain maakte Ea Eo ook een korte versie van ‘m²’.
Deze korte act kan apart geboekt worden.

les mètres quarrés confrontent brusquement quatre individus

Cie Entre-Sonore is opgericht door Lars Senders (Latzi Jones,

La Machine a-muze (2012) – NIEUWE CREATIE –
Bij deze eerste voorstelling van Cie Entre-Sonore wordt een
bascule omgebouwd tot een grootse klankinstallatie die op
ecologisch-acrobatische wijze wordt aangedreven door basculeacrobaten
Benjamin De Vroey en Joris Janssens (Ell Circo d’ell
Fuego) en waarbij Latzi Jones het geheel muzikaal onder controle
probeert te houden. ‘La Machine a-muze’ is circustheater/
straattheater waarbij acrobatie hand in hand gaat met muzikale
clownerie .
Voor deze voorstelling is Cie entre-Sonore nog op zoek naar
coproducenten. De première is gepland voor september 2012.

‘meespeelcircus’ voor kinderen in 1997. Hij is ook medestichter
van de Brugse circusschool (nu Woesh) en van projecten als
het familiepark De Sierk in De Haan.
En 1997 Kristof Gouwy, l’âme inspiratrice de Hoetchatcha!,
entreprend de monter un spectacle interactif pour enfants. Il est
également l’un des fondateurs de l’école de cirque brugeoise Woesh.

Jan de jongleur, Louise de touwdanseres, John de sterke man, alle
artiesten geven het beste van zichzelf, zelfs de wereldberoemde
fakir Rahmaradjad toont zich van zijn mooiste kant. Maar dan
loopt er iets fout en alle vingers wijzen in dezelfde richting.

Circus Hoetchatchov (2009)
Papa Krzystov (Kristof Gouwy) en zoon Ivànovitch (Karel Casier,
oud-student ESAC) komen helemaal uit het koude Rusland om
u hun circuskunsten te tonen! Met grote trots presenteert papa
zijn jonge telg die – na vaderlief – de grootste acrobaat van heel
Rusland is. Maar de grote Russische circustraditie kan Ivànovitch
gestolen worden. Geef hem maar zijn trompet! Een rock-enrollvoorstelling
voor kinderen en hun ouders. Circus Hoetchatchov
is opgenomen in Aanbod Podium van de Vlaamse overheid.

Sarah Peters volgde een pedagogische circusopleiding in Brussel,
specialiseerde zich bij Espace Catastrophe in hedendaagse dans en
acrobatie en volgde diverse stages in binnen- en buitenland waarbij
ze zich ook vervolmaakte in het jongleren. Al meer dan 10 jaar is ze
actief als ziekenhuisclown. In 2007 richt ze haar eigen gezelschap,
Cie Roffelsok, op. Geboeid door tapdans en body drumming
combineert ze deze technieken met die van het circus.

Ciel au mât is de compagnie van Jesse Huygh en Sofie Sweygers.
Huygh (zie ook p. 92) start op negenjarige leeftijd met artistieke
gymnastiek. Hij ontdekt circus bij het schoolcircus ‘Estropov’ en
bij Ell Circo d’ell Fuego. In 2011 studeert hij af aan de Brusselse
circushogeschool ESAC. Sweygers speelt reeds van klein af cello.
Zuiver klassiek geschoold gaat zij de uitdaging aan om
circusvoorstellingen te begeleiden en durft daarbij steeds meer
buiten de ‘klassieke’ lijntjes te kleuren.

Ciel au mât (2010)
Twee werelden kruisen elkaar: die van een celliste en een
verwilderd wezen dat boven in een paal woont. Hun ontmoeting
leidt tot een energieke ontdekkingstocht in een fysieke
opeenvolging van wantrouwen, schrik, nieuwsgierigheid en
verlangen. De paalbewoner zoekt het meisje op, geïntrigeerd
door de warme klanken die hem zo ontroeren. En ook zij waagt
zich, gesterkt door de kracht van haar muziek, in zijn territorium.
Deux mondes qui se croisent: celui d’un joueur de violoncelle
et d’un être sauvage qui habite au sommet d’un poteau. Leur
rencontre résulte en une aventure qui les mène dans une

De in Amsterdam geboren Bart de Vrind was als kind al gefascineerd
door circus. Na talloze baantjes bij diverse circusgezelschappen sticht
hij in 1987 samen met zijn gezin Circus Bavaria. Tot 1995 worden de
programma’s bijna helemaal gevuld door de kinderen van het
echtpaar De Vrind. Circus Bavaria is een klein traditioneel circus met
paarden, clowns, acrobaten, jongleurs en trapeze.
En 1987 Bart de Vrind et sa famille érigent le Cirque Bavaria. Ce cirque
met le spectacle traditionnel à l’affiche, avec des chevaux, des clowns,

Met als rode draad de Gentse komieken Pat Remue en Dirk Lajoie
biedt deze show voor elk wat wils. Marcel van Leeuwen met
degenbalance op hoge ladder, voorts als jongleur en met z’n
partner Janine Molinski presenteert hij de ganzen en een
bellenblaasact. Kleindochter Ramona presenteert de geitjes en
doet Hula-hop. Directeur Bart de Vrind kondigt de show aan
en werkt met zijn paardje.

Leerkracht en cliniclown Dieter Messiaen volgde workshops
goochelen, jongleren, clownerie en vuurspuwen aan de circusscholen
Woesh, Circusplaneet en l’Espace Catastrophe. Els Degryse,
coördinator van het Brugse circusatelier Woesh, volgde workshops
jongleren, acroporter, tumbling en clownerie. Samen richten ze Circus
Krak op waarmee ze in eerste instantie voorstellingen brengen in de
derde wereld maar nu ook in eigen land toeren. Circus Krak is
opgenomen in Aanbod Podium van de Vlaamse overheid.
Dieter Messiaen et Els Degryse perfectionnent leur art de cirque via
différents workshops. Ils érigent ensemble le Cirque Krak et montent
plusieurs spectacles d’abord au tiers monde et à présent également
dans notre pays.

Charlieston (2011)
In deze woordeloze kindervoorstelling maakt de wereldberoemde
danseres Charlie zich klaar voor haar volgende optreden. Haar
hulpje Ston slaagt er echter keer op keer in om haar act te
verstoren. Circus Krak vermengt dans met acrobatie, goochelen
met poppentheater en jongleren met clownerie.
De opbrengst van deze voorstelling gaat naar Shangrila Home,
een tehuis voor straatkinderen in Nepal.
Dans ce spectacle sans paroles pour enfants, la danseuse Charlie,
mondialement connue, prépare son prochain rôle. Ceci est sans
compter l’aide de Ston! Un mélange de clowneries, de danse,

Circustechnieken worden aangeleerd, nummers in elkaar

dat allemaal als voorbereiding op een heuse circusweek. Het circus
arriveert met zijn woonwagens, de tent wordt opgezet, de hele
school oefent met als climax een formidabele circusvoorstelling
voor vrienden en familie. Daarna volgt de afbraak van de
circustent, klaar om weer andere oorden op te zoeken.

Boerkesshow
Inspiratiebron voor deze voorstelling is het Provinciaal Domein
Bokrijk in Limburg, dat het oude boerenleven van weleer
tentoonstelt. De show is een samensmelting van het ouderwetse
leven met het nieuwe circus. Zo worden de nieuwste
circustechnieken uitgevoerd op een ouderwetse bakfiets.
L’inspiration pour ce spectacle provient de Domaine Provincial
Bokrijk au Limbourg où la vie paysanne d’antan est reconstruite.
Le spectacle est un mélange de cette vie d’autrefois avec le cirque
de nos jours.
The inspiration source for this performance is Bokrijk (a provincial
domain in Limburg, reflective of the old farmer lifestyle). The show
is a mix of this old fashioned way of living and new circus
techniques.

Circusplaneet vzw vierde in 2011 zijn tienjarig bestaan. Naast het

La Cucina dell’Arte (2007)
Van kindsbeen af bespelen David en Danny Ronaldo de komedie
der menselijke zwakheden, de clown. Ook in ‘La Cucina dell’Arte’
vormen de dwaze menselijke machtsspelletjes het hoofdthema.
De hiërarchie achter de potten en pannen en de relatie tussen
de meesterkok en het keukenhulpje zijn droomsituaties voor
deze clowns.

De geschiedenis van Circus Rose-Marie Malter gaat terug tot 1970.
Dan maken Jean Gebruers en Rose-Marie Malter het plan om
voortaan samen als familiecircus door de wereld te trekken. In eerste
instantie is dat onder de naam Circus Apollo (en als Circus Rondau
op televisie). In 1986 wordt voor de naam Circus Rose-Marie Malter
gekozen. Dit nomadische circus brengt traditioneel circus in een

Quizas door Los Latinos Locos (2007)
Een komische voorstelling over de tijdloze strijd tussen man
en vrouw. Met een ongelooflijke variëteit aan circustechnieken

Cirque-Cirqulaire bestaat sinds 2006 met als drijvende kracht
Benjamin Rummens uit Gent. Benjamin startte met circus in
Circolito, het circusatelier van Mechelen, en ging vervolgens naar
Espace Catastrophe. In ESAC vervolledigde hij zijn opleiding. In zijn
creaties gaat hij telkens, solo of met andere artiesten, op zoek naar
unieke combinaties van technieken en andere podiumkunsten.
Vandaag mengt hij vooral circustheater en ‘la Magie Nouvelle’.
Benjamin Rummens crée de l’animation dans la rue et des numéros
de cirque uniques et originaux grâce à des techniques de cirque,
des clowneries, de l’improvisation, des techniques de prestidigitation
et plein de créativité. Il travaille seul ou en collaboration avec

Ciné-Sirk (2010)
‘Ciné-Sirk’ speelt zich af rond 1930, de magische periode van
foorkramers en kermissen, van waarzeggers en fakirs. De laatste
telgen La Famoso Familia Framboso komen op de proppen met
een wereldprimeur: de cinema. ‘Ciné-Sirk’ is origineel en interactief
circus voor alle leeftijden in een intiem tentje waarvoor Benjamin
Rummens samenwerkt met Werner Moonens. Ciné-Sirk is
opgenomen in Aanbod Podium van de Vlaamse overheid.
‘Ciné-Sirk’ se déroule dans les années trente, période magique de
kermesses et de marchands forains, de diseurs de bonne aventure
et de fakirs. Les derniers descendants de la famille ‘La Famoso
Familia Framboso’ nous présentent une primeur mondiale:
le cinéma! Un cirque interactif sous un chapiteau intime.

Fireman, The Life of (2012) – NIEUWE CREATIE –

‘Fireman’ is een solovuurshow in ware stand-uptraditie, waarin
Fireman het verhaal van zijn leven vertelt. Vanaf zijn geboorte
(bij Firedaddy en Firemammie) tot en met zijn waarschijnlijke
dood in 2057. Vuuracteur Kenneth Creyff gebruikt niet alleen
diverse vuurtechnieken, maar ook straattheaterelementen en
comedy skills.
De voorstelling gaat in première in april 2012. Cirque del Mundo
is voor deze voorstelling nog op zoek naar coproducenten.
‘Fireman’ est un solo spectacle du feu dans la tradition la plus pure
du cabaret. Un mélange incongru de technique du feu, de théâtre
de rue et de comique.

Cirqling times (2012) – NIEUWE CREATIE –
‘Cirqling Times’ is een groots opgezette circusproductie met een
bijzondere vuurwatervalinstallatie als uniek decor. De vuurwaterval
wordt bewoond door vier circuspersonages die onlosmakelijk met
elkaar verbonden zijn maar wel allemaal dromen van een ‘elders’.
‘Cirqling Times’ est une production de cirque de grande envergure
avec une installation tout à fait particulière: un cascade de feu.

A perfect storm (2012) – NIEUWE CREATIE –
Circus, dans, theater en special effects gaan in een spectaculair
decor de confrontatie aan met elkaar en de vier elementen
(aarde, lucht, water en vuur). Een voorstelling over hoe de mens de
natuur forceert, maar ook terug op zoek gaat naar een harmonieus
evenwicht met de natuur.
Voor deze creatie is Cirq’ulation Locale nog op zoek naar
coproducenten.
Les quatre éléments (la terre, l’air, l’eau et le feu) d’un côté et le
cirque, la danse, le théâtre et les effets spéciaux de l’autre côté,

Drie Vlaamse jongens – Arne Sabbe en de broers Simon en Vincent
Bruyninckx – en een Frans meisje – Juliette Correa – ontmoeten
elkaar aan de circushogeschool ACaPA in Tilburg. Samen stichten
ze een explosief circusgezelschap dat overloopt van de ‘goesting’
en het bruisende, jonge talent. Simon en Arne volgen momenteel
les aan de Franse topcircusschool CNAC.

Vier bewoners van een bonte caravan doen zichzelf en elkaar de
lucht in vliegen, nu eens van het dak van de caravan, dan weer via
een dansende bank naar een trapeze die alle zorgen weg ‘zwiert’.
Circus zonder onder of boven! Deze drie kerels en hun vrouw
houden wel van wat waanzin en explosiviteit. Winnaar van
De Grote Prijs MiramirO in 2011.

Een achtergelaten bestelwagen in een verlaten streek, nutteloos
aangezien de olie onbetaalbaar is geworden. Twee mensen
besluiten om van de bestelwagen hun voorlopige schuilplaats te
maken. Maar hoe kunnen ze zich van energie voorzien? En wat als
een vreemde derde hun pad kruist? Een voorstelling over
hernieuwbare energie en de complexe relaties tussen mensen.
In deze eerste straatvoorstelling van Company O brengen drie
dansers/acrobaten een mix tussen visueel theater, acrobatie,
klassiek ballet en hedendaagse dans. Dit alles gebeurt op en rond
een bestelwagen. Voor ‘End of oil’ wordt samengewerkt met
choreograaf Alasdair David Stewart van Motionhouse (UK) en
regisseur Jan Vermeersch van Cirq’ulation Locale (BE).
Une représentation qui traite d’énergie renouvelable et des
relations complexes entre êtres humains. Dans cette première
production de théâtre de rue de la Compagnie O trois danseurs
acrobates présentent un mélange de théâtre, d’acrobatie, de

d’une camionnette!

Duo Casalinga (2008)
Op het podium of in de piste ontsnapt de circusartiest aan het
alledaagse. Maar hoe zit het met zijn alledaagse leven? In deze
korte versie van het avondvullend programma ‘Casalinga’ brengen

main-à-main acrobatie, originele jonglerie en een sensuele

De Vuurmeesters is een vuurcollectief binnen het Wetterse

Een ‘carnivale’ uit lang vervlogen tijden. Met hun vuurinstallaties
toveren De Vuurmeesters buitenlocaties om tot een wereld waarin
bevreemdende personages elk op hun eigen manier bezeten zijn
door vuur. Paradepaardje binnen ‘Vuurdorp Royale’ is de zeven
meter hoge vuurknikkerbaan.
Un ‘Carnivale’ des temps anciens. Au moyen de leurs installations
de feu Les ‘Vuurmeesters’ transforment d’un coup de baguette
n’importe quel emplacement en un univers d’étranges

Voor de ‘Vuurparade’ brengen De Vuurmeesters mobiele vuurinstallaties,

D’irque (Dirk Van Boxelaere) is een vaste waarde in het Vlaamse
straattheaterlandschap. Na vele jaren intensieve scholing in de
circuskunsten (o.a. aan de Brusselse circushogeschool ESAC en
l’Ecole Nationale de Cirque in Montreal) en meer dan vijftien jaar
ervaring in het straattheater, creëert hij in 2010 zijn tweede grote
circusvoorstelling samen met de pianiste Fien van Herwegen.
D’irque (Dirk Van Boxelaere) est une des valeurs établies du théâtre
de rue flamand. Après de nombreuses années de formation intensive
des arts du cirque (entre autre à l’ESAC à Bruxelles et l’Ecole
Nationale de Cirque de Montréal) et plus de quinze ans d’expérience
dans le théâtre de rue, il crée en 2010 sa deuxième représentation en
collaboration avec la pianiste Fien van Herwegen.
D’irque (Dirk Van Boxelaere) is a fixture in the landscape of Flemish
street theatre. After many years of intensive training in circus arts
(including ESAC in Brussels and the National Circus School of
Montreal) and more than fifteen years of experience in the field of

Dogwolf is een gezelschap dat zich ergens op het kruispunt tussen

Entre Nous (2009)
Ergens op een ongewone plaats staat een grote houten kist.
Precies op die plek komen twee mensen elkaar tegen. Gedreven
door nieuwsgierigheid onderzoeken zij elkaar en gaandeweg
ontdekken ze dat de kist niet zomaar een kist is. ‘Entre Nous’ is
een dynamische danstheatervoorstelling en een zoektocht naar
alles wat de mens beweegt.

C’est à cette place exacte que deux personnes se rencontrent.

Seuls avec vous (2011)
Ze zijn weer thuisgekomen. Ze kennen elkaar al heel lang. Ze zitten
in hun eigen wereldje, elk in hun eigen cocon. Maar dan komen ze
terecht in een totaal absurd ‘ergens anders’. Daar is elke vorm van
spel toegelaten. In een regie van Roberto Magro met muziek van
Tuur Floorizone.
Ils sont rentrés à la maison. Ils se connaissent depuis très
longtemps. Ils vivent chacun dans leur petit monde, leur cocon.
Mais voilà qu’ils se situent soudain dans un ‘autre part’ absurde où
toutes les formes de jeu sont autorisées.
They have returned home. They have known each other for a long
time. They’re each in their own world, in their own cocoon. Until
they end up in a totally absurd ‘somewhere else’, where any kind
of game is allowed.

Florian Vandemeulebroucke, artiestennaam Florian Brooks, is

Wibbe Pompe en Vicki Steggles ontmoeten elkaar in 2005 op de
circustheaterschool Circomedia in Bristol (UK). Vandaag wonen
beide artiesten in Gent en speelt Fullstop Acrobatic Theatre voor
een gevarieerd publiek op Europese straattheaterfestivals.
Wibbe Pompe et Vicki Steggles se rencontrent en 2005 à l’école de

Sugar and Spice (2013) – NIEUWE CREATIE –
Wat is een ‘echte’ man? Hoe ziet een ‘echte’ vrouw eruit? Wie
en wat bepaalt het gezicht van mannen en vrouwen? De mode,
de media, de maatschappij? Het thema gender vormt de
inspiratiebron voor deze voorstelling met luchtacrobatie,
jonglerie, main-à-main acrobatie, fysiek theater en dans.
Fullstop Acrobatic Theatre is voor deze voorstelling nog op zoek
naar coproducenten, residenties en een plek om in première te
gaan. Deze productie gaat in september 2013 in creatie en gaat
op tournee vanaf februari 2014 langs de culturele centra, theaters
en festivals.
La source d’inspiration pour cette représentation est le thème du
sexe. Un spectacle plein de haute voltige, de jonglerie, d’acrobatie
main-à-main, de théâtre physique et de danse.

De toeschouwer wordt meegenomen in een voyeuristisch tafereel

El Bien contra el Mal (2012) – NIEUWE CREATIE –
‘Het Goede vs het Kwaad’ of in het Spaans ‘El Bien contra el Mal’
is een theatraal spektakel dat zijn inspiratie vindt in de wereld van
la Lucha Libre, de gekostumeerde catch-gevechten die in Mexico
bijzonder populair zijn. Deze traditie vertoont zowel op vlak van
codes als techniek veel overeenkomsten met het circus (clownerie,
cascades, acrobatie). De voorstelling speelt zich af ‘in de ring’ met
de archetypische gemaskerde personages, versterkt door de
kleuren en geluiden van de populaire Mexicaanse cultuur en
verankerd in de kermiswereld. Met en van Aurélia Brailowsky,
Gaëtan Dejonghe, Gonzalo Alarcòn en Benjamin Eugène.
Avant-première (Dommelhof) en première (Espace Catastrophe)
voorzien voor maart 2012. Hopla Circus is nog op zoek naar

Jan Haegens begon zijn circuscarrière als jongere aan de Gentse
Circusacademie van Roger Novaro en in Circusplaneet. Daarna trekt
hij naar Brussel voor een jaar Espace Catastrophe en drie jaar ESAC,
waar hij zich specialiseert in ladder. In 2009 volgt hij ook nog een
half jaar stage in de befaamde Nationale Circusschool van Rusland.

Jesse Huygh start op negenjarige leeftijd met artistieke gymnastiek.
Hij ontdekt circus bij het schoolcircus ‘Estropov’ en bij Ell Circo d’ell

en trekt meteen naar Zweden voor een nieuwe creatie.

thema niet eindeloos uitmelkt, maar
zeer strak timet. Verrassend gaat de
confrontatie tussen danser en mast
over in een uittesten van hoe een
discusschijf aan een koord rond de
mast kan zweven en hoe hij als mens
de rotaties kan bepalen. Een sacrale,
bijna rituele queeste in beweging.
Subtiel heersen in zijn bewegingen
twijfels. Ze nemen op momenten
de overhand om dan zacht langs
de mast weg te glijden in een
aanvaarding.

Hurricane (2011)
Orkanen gehoorzamen geen enkele wet. Het is moeilijk te
voorspellen waar ze precies zullen toeslaan en hoeveel schade
ze zullen aanrichten, maar in het oog van de orkaan is het stil.
Het oog in ‘Hurricane’ is de Chinese paal, de wind die het oog
omgeeft wordt gevisualiseerd door een nieuw soort touwwerk
waaraan de artiest slingert. Een solo-act van Jesse Huygh.
Les ouragans n’obéissent à aucune loi; il est donc très difficile de
prévoir avec exactitude leur point d’impact. Le centre ou l’œil de
l’ouragan est calme; La précipitation y est inexistante. L’œil est un
mât chinois et le vent l’encercle, ceci est visualisé par un nouvel
agrès inventé par l’artiste auquel il se balance.
Hurricanes don’t obey any law. It’s difficult to predict where exactly
they will strike and how much damage they will cause, yet in the
eye of the hurricane it is quiet. The ‘eye’ in this performance is le
mât chinois, the wind is visualized by a specially invented kind of
robe and the physical presence of the artist.

Joppe Wouters volgde zijn eerste circuslessen bij Circus Estropov,
verbonden aan steinerschool De Es in Antwerpen. Na een passage in
de Antwerpse circusacademie Kay Fou en een professionele opleiding
aan de circushogeschool ESAC in Brussel, waar hij zich specialiseert
in bascule, bouwt hij in 2003 een auto, model Lada Niva, om tot
multifunctioneel acrobatietoestel: de Joplada. Wouters is ook
professioneel lasser, ontwerper en uitvoerder van circusmateriaal
en medeoprichter van Circus Marcel.

Wouters se spécialise à la bascule, il reconverti en 2003 une voiture
modèle Lada Niva en un instrument multifonctionnel d’acrobatie:

Joplada (2003)
‘Joplada!’, dat is de capriolen van Joppe Wouters en zijn blauwe
Lada. Man en auto hebben zo hun eigen oplossingen om de saaie
uren in het fileverkeer op te vrolijken: een beetje Bernie, een beetje
Batmobiel maar vooral veel acrobatie. Wouters buitelt over en op
het dak van de auto, ‘flikflakt’ van koffer tot motorkap en glijdt
binnen en buiten door het openstaande raampje. Om dan
uiteindelijk te vallen over... een bananenschil.

‘Katleen on cannes’ neemt je mee in een zoektocht naar
evenwicht. Met haar solo op de cannes of evenwichtspaaltjes
toont Katleen Ravoet dat balanceren op de handen voor haar
makkelijker is dan stabiel op haar twee benen staan. Gebracht
door een combinatie van acrobatie, dans en beweging brengt
ze haar lichaam in de meest onmogelijke houdingen.

Als kind deden Bert Loenders en Frederique Snoeks al aan circus in
het circusatelier Circ-o-Fun in Neerpelt en later bij Ell Circo d’ell
Fuego in Antwerpen. In juni 2011 studeren ze af aan de
circushogeschool ACaPA in Tilburg. De derde van het gezelschap,
Danny Vrijsen, is afgestudeerd aan de circushogeschool ESAC in
Brussel. Naast Kluster hebben Loenders en Snoeks ook hun eigen
gezelschap als duo Bert & Fred (zie p. 14) en heeft Vrijsen een eigen
basculecollectief Trio DAC (zie p. 128).

In de overtuiging dat ze in Canada bij Cirque du Soleil beland zijn,
beginnen de twee Russische acrobaten Bobovsky en Dimitry (Bert
Loenders en Danny Vrijsen) aan hun act. Wanneer blijkt dat ze hun
bestemming niet bereikt hebben, verliezen ze de moed.

Convaincus qu’ils sont arrivés au Canada chez le fameux Cirque Du

‘Cuadradio’ grijpt terug naar de traditie van muzikale clownerie,

Drie nette stadsjongens met ongeduldige voeten en de nood om
even uit het strakke pak van alledag te springen. Op het ritme van
hun pompende harten nemen de primaire instincten de overhand.

In 2003, na verschillende tournees bij Cirque Plume en Les Baladins
du Miroir, ontmoeten drie gepassioneerde trapezisten elkaar. De
ontmoeting wordt bezegeld met de creatie van ‘One...Two..Triieee...’,
een humoristische voorstelling die meer dan vijf jaar internationaal
toert. Hierna volgen de voorstellingen ‘Los Pekenos Brazos’ en
‘The Flying Brother and Sister’. In 2010 creëren Sophie Mandoux, Jan
Willem Maes en Mathieu Moerenhout ‘Triplette’, een voorstelling die
het waarmerk van het gezelschap draagt: typisch Belgische humor.

Spilfiguur van dit reizende circus is de levende circuslegende
Leo Verswijvel (alias Big Bill of Bill Kartoum). Hij is de oudste
(°1928), actieve circusdirecteur in Vlaanderen. Samen met zijn
partner Patrizia Lotti brengt hij nog steeds diverse circus voorstellingen
voornamelijk in scholen en bejaardentehuizen. Magic
Circus is opgenomen in Aanbod Podium van de Vlaamse overheid.
Le personnage central dans ce cirque classique est la légende vivante
Leo Verswijvel (alias Big Bill, Bill Kartoum). Il est l’ainé (°1928)
des directeurs de cirque actifs en Flandre. Lui et sa partenaire
Patrizia Lotti figurent encore toujours dans des représentations
de cirque organisées pour la plus part dans des écoles et des

Momenteel brengt Magic Circus een eigenzinnige mix van
nummers met clowns en boerderijdieren (paarden, ezels, konijnen,
kippen, geiten en duiven). Het circus is speciaal gericht op jong en
oud, met een bijzondere oriëntatie op bejaarden, jonge kinderen
en scholen.
In juli en augustus wordt opgetreden voor rusthuizen, vakantiecentra
en andere organisaties. Er kunnen diverse formules
(indoor-outdoor) worden uitgewerkt.
En ce moment le Magic Circus présente un mélange de numéros
de clowns et d’animaux de ferme. Le cirque se dirige tout
spécialement vers les jeunes, les aînés, les petits enfants et
les écoliers.

La Ville qui respire (2011)
‘La ville qui respire’ is een locatieproject. Een wandeling door een
stad. Korte verhalen en rituelen die zich in de straten verborgen
houden, worden verzameld door de stadsbewoners. Die verhalen
worden verteld in vijf microscènes tijdens een intiem ritueel.
Un projet d’emplacement où les contes de la ville sont rassemblés
et ensuite contés en cinq petites scènes pendant un rituel intime
entre six spectateurs.

Gehoornde man (2008–2009)
In ‘Gehoornde Man’ vormen de gedachten van de toeschouwers
het belangrijkste attribuut. Poëzie, live muziek, hersenacrobatiek

In 2005 beslissen vijf circusartiesten, onderlegd in verschillende
disciplines, om samen een voorstelling rond een cocktailbar te
maken. ShakeThat is geboren. De vijf leden – Gab Bondewel, Hans
Vanwynsberghe, Joris Verbeeren, Sander De Cuyper en Nino Mertens
– waren in een ver of nabij verleden verbonden aan het West-Vlaamse
circusatelier Woesh.
En 2005 cinq artistes de cirque, spécialisés en plusieurs disciplines,
décident de faire une représentation au sujet d’un bar de cocktails:
la naissance de ‘ShakeThat’.

Fallen Thoughts (2012) – NIEUWE CREATIE –
‘Fallen thoughts’ symboliseert een visuele vorm van gedachten
die vallen, mensen die vallen, situaties die op je afkomen, allemaal
vanuit een ander perspectief. Het publiek ligt op de grond, naast
elkaar en gerangschikt in een cirkel rond de stam van een grote
boom. Er zitten personages in de takken. Ze vallen één voor één
uit die boom en blijven net boven je hoofd hangen.
Studio Eclipse is nog op zoek naar coproducenten voor een bedrag
van 12.500 euro. Première zomer 2013.
‘Fallen thoughts’ symbolise la version visuelle d’idées qui naissent,
de gens qui trébuchent, de situations qui vous tombent dessus,
tout cela au départ d’un point de vue différent. Le public est
couché sur le sol, tous les uns à côté des autres en un cercle
autour d’un grand tronc d’arbre. Les personnages sont assis sur
les branches de l’arbre.

Two sink, three float (2009–2010)
Een trio ergens tussen dans en beeldend theater in. Het water als
ongekende diepte en duister onderbewuste dat de dingen doet
drijven of zinken. Drie figuren zoeken hun evenwicht op een vlot en
nemen de toeschouwer mee in een surrealistisch, visueel verhaal
dat zich afspeelt op het dunne, natte vlies tussen boven en onder.
L’eau a parfois une profondeur insoupçonnable qui fait flotter ou
couler les choses en un subconscient obscur. Trois personnages
à la recherche de leur équilibre sur un radeau.

Sven Roelants studeert in 1996 af aan de Circusschool van Brussel en
volgt nadien nog jongleer-, dans-, en theaterstages in binnen- en
buitenland. Hij wordt vooral bekend door zijn steltloopacts (‘Khalid
& Co’). Ondertussen is Sven al meer dan tien jaar actief in het
straattheatercircuit met zijn verschillende acts en circusshows.
En 1996, Sven Roelants achève ses études à l’Ecole de Cirque de
Bruxelles. Il s’est fait un nom grâce à ses numéros sur échasses. Sven
enchante le public depuis plus de dix ans avec ses numéros de rue et
spectacles de cirque.

Met de ‘Sierk Mobiel’ maakt Sven Roelants de straten onveilig.
Wanneer hij zijn spacy wagen tot stilstand brengt, kan het publiek

Uit een samenwerking tussen Hopla Circus en Le BoTrio ontspruit in

‘Sibling’ neemt je mee achter de coulissen van een circusfamilie:

The Great Bulgarian Circus is een circustheatergezelschap
waarbinnen zowel het artistieke als het organisatorische luik volledig
gedragen wordt door jongeren. Luckas Zaman en Wouter Somers
richten het gezelschap op eind 2006. In de zomer van 2007 speelt
The Great Bulgarian Circus zijn eerste voorstelling, toen nog onder
de noemer ‘jeugdcircus’. Anno 2012 is het gezelschap uitgegroeid tot
een structuur waarbinnen een heleboel jongeren met verschillende
talenten hun ding doen.

dood samen met zijn directeur Mr. Wachareck tijdens een
rampzalige brand in het Bulgaarse dorpje Plovdiv. Gelukkig had de

Zwitserland met Circus Monti.

Het Wiener Circus reist rond sinds 1965 en is daarmee het oudste
nog rondreizende circus in België. Directeur Ullrich Malter (°1939)
is afkomstig uit een bekende circusfamilie (met stamvader Gottfried,
broers Harry en Gottfried Junior en zus Rose-Marie Malter).
Het circus presenteert hedendaagse maar toch klassieke circusprogramma’s
met opeenvolgende nummers.
Le Wiener Circus organise ses tournées en Belgique depuis 1965
et y est ainsi le cirque le plus ancien du pays.

Het Wiener Circus presenteert een klassiek circusprogramma met

Het circus reist van midden februari tot begin november. Naast

Zinzi Oegema en Evertjan Mercier zijn als kind al gepassioneerd door
circus. Oegema begint op haar vierde met circus bij Circus Elleboog,
het jeugdcircus van Amsterdam. Later volgt ze les aan Codarts Circus
Arts in Rotterdam waar ze zich specialiseert in partneracrobatiek,
maar zich ook toelegt op dans en compositie. Mercier zet zijn eerste
passen binnen de wereld van het circus bij het circusatelier Circolito
in Mechelen. In 2011 studeert hij af aan de circushogeschool ACaPA
in Tilburg, specialisatie main-à-main en banquine.
Zinzi Oegema a reçu sa formation à la Codarts Circus Arts
à Amsterdam et s’est specialisée à l’acrobatie avec partenaire.
Mercier a terminé ses études en 2011 à l’ACaPA à Tilburg et
s’est spécialisé à l’acrobatie main-à-main et à la banquine.

Twee heel verschillende mensen ontmoeten elkaar. Zij houdt
van bewegen terwijl hij geen stap verzet. Hij wil haar laten zien
wat hij ziet, maar zij twijfelt. Wie geeft er toe? ‘View’ exploreert
de mogelijkheden van partneracrobatie als een dynamisch
proces tussen twee acteurs.
De première van de nieuwe/verder uitgewerkte act zal
plaatsvinden in januari 2012.

bouger tandis que lui ne fait pas un pas. Il veut lui montrer ce qu’il
voit, mais elle hésite. Qui va céder? ‘View’ explore les possibilités
de l’acrobatie entre partenaires en temps qu’évolution dynamique
entre deux acteurs.

De Vlaamse overheid geeft sinds enkele jaren sterke impulsen aan de
creatie en spreiding van de Vlaamse circuskunsten. Enerzijds zijn er
de subsidies via het Circusdecreet, anderzijds is er het Circuscentrum
dat sinds 2007 de optimale voorwaarden creëert om de kwaliteit van
het circus in al zijn vormen en voor alle betrokkenen te verhogen.
Het Circusdecreet heeft als doel om de circuskunsten in Vlaanderen
te stimuleren, te ondersteunen en steeds opnieuw kansen op verdere
ontwikkeling, ontplooiing en groei te bieden. Zowel de creatie en
spreiding van een circuskunstproductie als de opleiding en vorming
van circuskunstenaars komen voor het decreet in aanmerking.
De beschikbare financiële middelen bleven niet achter en stegen
van 150.000 euro in 2006 tot meer dan 1.500.000 euro in 2010.
Depuis quelques années le gouvernement flamand fait preuve
d’une impulsion cruciale à l’appui du cirque en Flandres. Témoins
en sont la fondation du Circuscentrum et le Décret relatif au
soutien des arts du cirque qui illustrent la connaissance des choses
du gouvernement flamand et l’intérêt qu’il porte à ce secteur.
Grâce au Décret les artistes et compagnies de cirque, les festivals
de cirque et les étudiants des écoles supérieures des arts du cirque
peuvent obtenir une aide financière à fin de mener leur projet
à bon terme.

Since several years, the Flemish authorities provide crucial incentives
to the support of circus arts in Flanders: through the formation
of the Circuscentrum and the introduction of the Circus Decree,
the authorities illustrate their know-how and interest in the circus
sector.
Circus artists and companies, circus festivals and students
of circus high schools can receive financial support for their
circus project through the Circus Decree.
