andre kinoklare fi lmer å glede seg til
fremover. Fra fi lmskaperne bak ”Th e
Firm” og ”Erin Brockowich” kommer
en intens thriller med George Clooney
som ”Michael Clayton”, en mann som
blir satt til å løse en vanskelig og uvanlig
sak for sitt fi rma: Sin egen tilstedeværelse
og person.
Sjøfolk på skip i fi lmtjenesten får
også med seg ”Eastern promises” der
Naomi Watts spiller mot Viggo
Mortensen i en fi lm av David Cronenberg.
Mortensen spiller den karismatiske
russeren Nikolai, medlem og
viktig brikke i en av Londons mest
fryktede mafi afamilier.
and murderers have long ravaged the
southbound trains when one day, Wade
is overpowered and captured during a
raid along the rails. Dan Evans (Christian
Bale), a man who has struggled to
survive on a worn-down ranch for a
long time, undertakes to transport
Wade and place him on the ”3:10 to
Yuma”. Th e train which will take the
criminal via court to, hopefully, a stay
under lock and key. Th e nature of this
undertaking alters for the worse along
the way, great danger lurks behind every
turn, and the transport soon becomes a
violent and impossible journey towards
the fi nal destination. Th e director is
James Mangold, who also made “Walk
the Line”.
While Mangold’s fi lm includes all
the central elements from the western
fi lm, ”Th e Assassination of Jesse James
by the Coward Robert Ford” has its
very own peculiar mood. Th e bandit
Jesse James, played by Brad Pitt, was
assassinated on April 3rd, 1882 by
Robert Ford (Casey Affl eck), a man
who started off as an admirer and ended
up an enemy. Th e legendary bandit
Jesse James had ambitions to become a

He invited the brothers Charles and
Robert Ford to take part in the bank
robbery. Unfortunately for Jesse James,
the brothers did not plan to participate
in the robbery, but rather secure the reward
of 10.000 dollars off ered to deliver
James – dead or alive. Jesse James
became a legend and was regarded a
hero after his death. Robert Ford was
considered to be a coward and a traitor.
Andrew Dominik from New Zealand
has directed the fi lm based on a book
by Ron Hansen from 1983.
More western fi lms are also in the
making: Ed Harris will direct and play
one of the leading roles in the western
drama «Appaloosa». He will be accompanied
by Renée Zellweger and Viggo
Mortensen, among others. «Appaloosa»
takes us back to the lawless wild west of
the 1800s. Th e plot follows two friends
who arrive in the town of Appaloosa, a
town which is controlled by an unscrupulous
ranch owner. However, everything
changes when a beautiful widow
enters the stage.
Also the Swedish Lasse Hallström
wants to have a go at the western genre
with the fi lm ”Boones Lick”. Th e plot is
spun around a strong woman who takes
her family on a journey to Wyoming.
Julianne Moore will be playing the female
leading role, while Tom Hanks is going
to play one of her travelling companions.
He falls in love with Moore’s character
along the way, but unfortunately she is
already married – to his brother.
Th ese fi lms are still in the production
stage, but you may look forward to
many other fi lms ready for the cinemas.

and ”Erin Brockowich” we will have the
intense thriller with George Clooney
as ”Michael Clayton”, a man who is
designated to solve a diffi cult and
unusual case for his company: His own
presence and person.
Th e crew on ships subscribing to the
fi lm service will also receive ”Eastern
promises” in which Naomi Watts plays
against Viggo Mortensen in this fi lm
by David Cronenberg. Mortensen plays
the charismatic Russian Nikolai, member
and important part of one of London’s
most feared mafi a families.
