Nosotras, ciudadanas del sur, debemos decir a las ciudadanas del norte de Europa: no crean
las retóricas racistas de sus gobiernos.
En el sur no somos vagos ni despilfarradores, somos ciudadanos con los mismos derechos que ustedes.
Nos necesitamos mutuamente para construir un proyecto supranacional en el que todos podamos aspirar
a bienestar y derechos.
Nosotras, ciudadanas del sur, les decimos a nuestros hermanos portugueses, griegos e
italianos: no hay futuro para nuestros pueblos sin rebeldía, desobediencia, movilización y
construcción de alternativas.
A los que aún temen el chantaje al que nos someten las élites financieras: el círculo vicioso del neoliberalismo
y la deuda va a terminar por ahogarnos a todos. A los que desde hace años defienden que otra forma de
convivencia, justa y equitativa para todos, es posible: es el momento de atreverse. No hay un solo modelo
que tengamos que seguir y tenemos claro que no será fácil ni lo conseguiremos a la primera, pero de las
formas distintas que cada cual considere oportuno, es urgente demostrar que el orden que desde arriba
intentan imponer es en realidad el desorden del “sálvese quien pueda”, de la miseria y el miedo generalizados.
Nosotras, ciudadanas del sur, les decimos a las élites financieras europeas: no pasaréis. Vuestro
modelo está condenado al fracaso, y vamos a tirarlo abajo. Terminarán los tiempos de la dicta-
dura tecnocrática, del chantaje y el miedo como políticas públicas, y construiremos tiempos
mejores, de dignidad, democracia, justicia y participación.
No podemos seguir creyéndonos las mentiras de las élites financieras que se siguen enriqueciendo a costa
de empobrecernos, apoyándose en unas instituciones antidemocráticas que deciden sobre nuestro futuro.
Hay que incidir en este proyecto, hay que empezar a construirlo desde ya. Tenemos que generar espacios
compartidos, debates comunes y alternativas conjuntas que nos permitan caminar hacia una asamblea
constituyente europea, hacia un espacio común que garantice los derechos para todas y que sea verdad-
eramente democrático y participativo.

We, citizens from the South, must say to the citizens of Northern Europe: do not believe in
the racist rhetoric of your governments.
In the south we are not lazy or reckless: we are citizens with the same rights as you. We need each other to
build a supranational model in which we can all aspire to well-being and rights.
We, citizens from the South, say to our Portuguese, Greeks and Italian brothers: there is no
future to our people without rebellion, disobedience, mobilization and the construction of
alternatives.
To those who still fear the blackmail of financial elites we say: the vicious circle of neoliberalism and debt will
drown us all in the end. To those who, for years, have been defending that a different coexistence, fair and
equalitarian for all, is possible we say: this is the time to dare. There is not a model to follow and it is clear
that it will not be easy and we will not succeed in the first time. But, despite where we depart from and the
tools that we consider to be proper, it is urgent to state that the order that they are trying to impose from
above is in fact a disorder of “every man for himself”, where misery and fear prevail.
We, citizens from the South, say to the European financial elites: you shall not pass! Your
model is condemned to failure and we will bring it down. The times of technocrat dictator-
ship, of public policies of blackmail and fear will end and we will build a better time, a time
of dignity, democracy, justice and participation.
We cannot continue believing in the lies of the financial elites who are getting richer when we are getting
poorer and who find support in antidemocratic institutions that decide our future. We must insist on this
project and we must start undertaking it immediately. We have to create shared spaces, common debates
and joint alternatives that might allow us to move towards a European constituent assembly, a proper space
that assures rights for all and a truly democratic and participative space.
