expressivos no processo, pelo contrário, havia muita desconfiança
e insegurança no uso.
a segurança e a eficiência do uso do Esplanade NA
mistrust and insecurity in the use. “Universities have worked to
raise awareness and clarify with governments and restoration
actors, demystifying the use and demonstrating the benefits of
using herbicides. We also support this movement together with
our research and development team, demonstrating the safety
and efficiency of using Esplanade NA in forest site restoration.
Today, fortunately, the use of herbicides in forest site restoration
areas is already accepted and used,” extols de Sousa e Silva about
the product that was developed exclusively to accompany the
investments of companies in this forest site restoration segment,
optimize management, reduce total cost of operation, in which
Envu projects to serve around 40 thousand ha in the coming years.
DEVELOPMENT
It took more than five years of experimentation in the laboratory,
greenhouse, and field, mainly studying the efficacy and
selectivity in more than 100 forest species, when we also expanded
the studies to include the University of São Paulo/Luiz de Queiroz
College of Agriculture (USP-ESALQ) to investigate what the relationship
is that this then controlled weed competition would have
in the native forest, such as coverage, biodiversity, biomass, and
mainly, security gains that the forest will have its development
guaranteed. Professor Pedro Brancalion, a specialist in forest
restoration at USP and coordinator of the Tropical Silviculture
Laboratory, reports that there was no product like Esplanade NA.
“We had glyphosate and other herbicides, but these required a
very high number of applications, something like six to ten applications,
while Esplanade NA reduces that number to one or two
applications, depending on the climate or rainfall volume of the
area,” according to Professor Brancalion.
In the Professor’s view, the positive impact of Esplanade
NA has enormous potential in the carbon market, as its action
enhances the growth of trees, which directly implies carbon capture.
“When the tree grows more, it absorbs more carbon. Thus,
in the areas where the herbicide was applied, it was possible to
verify a growth of around 30% more than in the areas where it
was not used. When we talk exponentially, this provides results of
great value to the forest and to those who invest in this market,”
