“Russia should reduce customs duty to 5%”<br />
Expressing that there are many investment opportunities<br />
in Russia for Turkish businessmen, and there<br />
are many important opportunities in Turkey for<br />
Russian investors, Vice President of Istanbul Leather<br />
and Leather Products Exporters’ Association (İD-<br />
MİB), Mehmet Ali Dinçer indicates that “ For that<br />
reason, the relation between two countries should<br />
be crowned with a Free Trade Agreement”. Asserting<br />
that there should be a Free Trade Agreement<br />
between the two countries, where there are important<br />
figures on export and import, Dinç touches<br />
upon the high customs duty and states that “Russia<br />
takes 10 percent customs duty. We have an important<br />
request from them, we want them to reduce<br />
this 10 percent customs duty to five percent”.<br />
“<strong>2017</strong> will be better than 2016 for Leather Industry”<br />
Expressing that Russia is one of the super power<br />
in the world, and Russian economy will move in a<br />
positive direction in consideration of the development,<br />
President of Istanbul Leather and Leather<br />
Products Exporters’ Association (İDMİB), Mustafa<br />
Şenocak indicates that “There is a recession in the<br />
world economy, it is in the Russia. We had 545-million-dollar<br />
leather and leather products exports to<br />
Russia in 2013, but now it has declined to 1.107 million<br />
dollars. However, in terms of leather sector, we<br />
believe that <strong>2017</strong> will be better than 2016.” He also<br />
noted that Turkey is aware that it needs to produce<br />
high-value products for export. Şenocak also notes<br />
that “Chip” application, which Russia has started<br />
for leather products, has increased the transportation<br />
fees from 30-40 dollars to 100-120 dollars and<br />
requests solution for this application. Expressing<br />
that Alleather-IDF Istanbul Fair has hosted 100 professional<br />
buyers from 18 countries, mainly Russia,<br />
President of Turkey Leather Foundation (TÜRDEV),<br />
Kıyasettin Temuçin notes that he aims to increase<br />
the export figures with the fair that have been in<br />
decline recently. Indicating that Turkish leather industry<br />
has been exporting to Russia for 25 years,<br />
Temuçin states that “We want to go back to old<br />
days with Russia, which is our largest buyer. As an<br />
industry, we will continue to export to Russia with<br />
our original design. However, our enterprises have<br />
been suffering from the “Chip” application, initiated<br />
by Russia. Our small and medium-sized enterprises<br />
are extremely affected by this situation”.<br />
“Russia should leave the leather business to Turkey”<br />
Member of Leather Promotion Board, Ruken Mızraklı<br />
has assessed the mutual needs of Turkey and<br />
Russia about natural gas and leather products. Indicating<br />
that business world has good mutual relations,<br />
Mızraklı states leather production has shifted<br />
to the east after 1920’s and 1930’s, underlines that<br />
Turkey is an important centre for tannery along<br />
with infrastructure and technical matters. Reminding<br />
that there is a 36 million cbm in Çorlu, and 30<br />
million cbm in Tuzla and major industrial regions in<br />
a plenty of regions, Ruken Mızraklı states that “Russia<br />
should leave the leather business to Turkey and<br />
develop strategies on buying. Russia should assess<br />
leather industry separately within industrialization.<br />
Russians do not have to invest from the scratch on<br />
that issue for Turkey does it.”<br />
“Turkish - Russian trade relations are getting better”<br />
The Russian guest of the Panel, Vice president of<br />
Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Moscow<br />
Region, Vadim Vinokurov made important statements<br />
about the agenda and answered the questions<br />
of the audience and panellists. Referring primarily<br />
to the crisis, Vinokurov stresses that Moscow<br />
Region has a major industrial potential and every<br />
region in Russia is assessed differently and Moscow<br />
Region has closed 2016 with + 16 percent. Talking<br />
about the Russian economy Vinokurov notes that<br />
he does not expect a substantial change in the<br />
value of the Ruble at the moment. Expressing that<br />
Turkish-Russian relations are normalized at the moment<br />
after the plane crisis, Vadim Vinokurov states<br />
that “In fact, we did not stop our relations during<br />
the crisis. I think that humanitarian and commercial<br />
relations are above politics”.
