of exporters were solved, the green passport request
was successfully resulted and they also fulfilled our
requests about finance access and abroad marketing.
We thank our government and our ministers’’.
Industry that
resolve the crisis
enlarged for 14%
Turkish leather industry that
completed the 14% of its grow in
the first quarter of this year, made
an export of 367 million dollars in
three month by pull through the
problems in last two years.
Turkish leather industry that turned towards the World
biggest market after the political and economic crisis
in the last two years step up his strength after relationships
with Russia was fixed. Mustafa Şenocak,
Istanbul Leather and Leather Materials Exporter’s Union
President, who noted that Turkey may become
one of the biggest leather exporters, also added
that: ‘’ By 31 March, as we complete the first quarter
of 2017, our export numbers give hope to a considerable
numbers. There is an increase about 14% in
the leather and leather materials export, and total
export number is 367 million dollars. In our markets
that we diversified As a Turkish leather dealer the
scale is always going up. At the period of this year,
the European Union countries become are biggest
export markets and thus our export increases about
12% and bring in 160 million dollars.’’Şenocak, also
added that there is an increase both in terms of value
and amount at the first quarter of this year and
added that:’’ Considering the periodical base, there
is an increase both in terms of value and amount in
the export of our sub group, particularly there is an
increase in shoe export. Considering the amount, Turkey
has gained 20% of grow by export 39 thousand
tons. The encouragement and support given by our
An increase of 75% in Russian markets
Şenocak noted that, as relationship with Russia got
better, this reflected on the export numbers as Russia,
is the traditional market of Turkish leather industry.
He also added that:’’ As relationship with Russia, our
traditional market, got better, our sub group industries
increased their export into that area. There is an increase
about 74% in export to Russia at the first quarter
of the last year. Our export number which was 21
million dollars the last year, raised to 37 million dollars
at first quarter of this year. The prominent sub industries
of this market is export of leather and fur outfit. As
the economy of Russia goes better and petrol prices
increase, the need of this market will grow day by
day. The reason of the adverse events was not only
aroused by political issues. Due to the, monetary tightening,
Russia has experienced a revenue loss. This is
why there had been demand shrinkage in our industry.
The political developments were also determine
factor and we experienced a serious shrinkage in our
traditional market. But the increase of export to this
market give hope to our industry. Based on March,
the 16 million dollars of export to Russian Federation
and the 93% of increase is an indication of this.’’
4 fairs and 3 UR-GES (support for development of
international competetivness) in first three month
Şenocak, noted that they participated in 4 Fair as ID-
MIB in the first quarter of year and he added that:’’
We made a fast entrance with 4 Expos that we participated.
We made a deduction so to speak with
130 companies. We were the most crowded country
with 41 company that participate d at the APLF Fair
in Hong Kong. We were talked about as a country
at those Fairs. Turkish leather is a brand that known
all around the World. Our industry will cover more
distance when our companies will make an active
participation in UR-GE projects and have SME. Our
country diversity increases as we participate together
in the events. There are 3 UR-GE projects that we
started to realise. There is an active participation
from our companies. Our exporters will enter the new
markets with UR-GE Project. We will see the contribution
of these projects in numbers in the coming years.
There is a significant increase in our value-added
product export but it can be seen in numbers due to
the increase in semi-finishing export. We want to export
our products not as semi-finishing products but
as value-added high finishing products. The trade of
semi-finishing export drag down the unit price per kg.
We want to export our products not as semi-finishing
products but as high value-added products.’’
