Mexican Cuisine The gift of Guanajuato Words & photos by Bree Dunn 과나후아토의 선물 번역: 조영상 (JBCIA 인턴) With the colorful papel picado lining the narrow alleyways, murals hanging on the front walls and a picturesque patio tucked in the back, Ay Mamita connects us to bits and pieces of Guanajuato, former home to co-owner, Isabel. To call it a breath of fresh air would be an understatementit is a space that has revived and added zest to the streets of downtown Jeonju. Its exterior exudes so much energy, but it is the warmth of the people inside that are the heart and soul of it all. Mi casa es tu Casa While the food is worth a lot of the praise and glory, customers also make mention of how hospitable and outgoing both Isabel and Koo are. Whether it is your first time or you are a regular, it doesn’t take long to feel a sense of ease and familiarity around them. From the beginning, they let it be known that their doors are open to everyone and that the space is more than just a restaurant; it is a cultural center where you can enjoy food, drinks, galleries, and art. Their animated presence has had a rippling effect on the enrichment of the community in Jeonju. It’s not just their business that they care about but the success of neighboring businesses, friends and of our community. 좁은 골목길에 화려한 파펠 피카도가 늘어서 있고, 벽 앞에는 벽화가 걸려있고, 뒷 벽에는 파티오 사진이 놓여있는 Ay Mamita (아이 마미따)는 이 식당 주인인 이사벨라의 멕시코 고향인 (Guanajuatio) 과나후아토와 연결시켜줬다. 이곳을 신선한 공기의 숨결이라고 부르는 표현일 것이다. Ay mamita는 전주 도심의 거리에 활기를 불어넣고 열정을 불어넣은 공간이다. 외관은 많은 에너지를 발산하지만, 내부에서는 열과 성을 가진 사람들의 따뜻함을 볼 수 있다. 내 집은 당신의 집 고객들은 음식이 맛있다고 칭찬하며, 이사벨과 구(이사벨 남편) 모두 친절하고 외향적이라고 말한다. 첫 고객이든 단골 고객이든지, 그들에게서 편안함과 친근함을 느끼는 데는 오래 걸리지 않는다. 처음부터 그들은 그들의 문이 모든 사람에게 열려있고, 그리고 이 공간은 ‘단순한 음식점’ 그 이상이라는 것을 알려줬다. 한 마디로 음식, 음료, 갤러리, 예술 모두를 즐길 수 있는 문화센터이다. 그들의 활기찬 존재는 전주에 있는 지역사회를 풍요롭게 하는 파급효과를 만들었다. 그들이 관심을 가지는 것은 단순히 그들 사업뿐만 아니라 이웃 가게영업 성공, 친구들 그리고 우리 지역 사회의 성공이다. 때문에 이러한 그들의 가족적 가치관이 가게를 운영하는 방식에 깊이 내재되어 있다는 것은 놀랄 남편과 아내가 함께 운영하고 있기 때문에 식당은 부부의 여정을 매우 잘 보여준다. K-pop 스타 소녀시대 태연도 이곳을 가고 싶다고 했다. 최근에는 전주 시장이 이곳을 방문하여 저녁식사를 하였고, 전통의상을 입고 사진을 찍기도 했다. 그들이 멕시코 문화를 존중하는 방식은 당신 자신이 누구인지를 축하하고 당신의 근원을 잊지 않는 다는 중요성에 경의를 표하는 것이다. 55
