Another very important result is that although we are dealing with "regular museum-goers",
50% of these took the opportunity of this event to visit a museum they had never been to before!
That is to say, each museum gained new audiences through this activity. Among occasional
museum-goers (1-3 visits per year) and museum-interested persons (4-5 visits per year)
there was a predominance of unspecific interest, while museum aficionados (6 and more visits
per year) tended to show specific interests.
One thing that particularly stood out in the appraisal of the „Long Museum Night“ by the
visitors was the comparatively frequent comments on the event and its programme (31%) and
on its atmosphere (17.4%) – these typical earmarks of the Long Night were well received by
the visitors. Critical remarks that they made were especially directed at the bus shuttle (14.1%),
but markedly less so at the programme itself (7.5%) and the organization of the event (6.4%).
The majority of the visitors considered the cost-effectiveness of the Long Night as satisfactory
(64.8%). Every fifth person asked (20.7%) judged the event to be inexpensive. This pattern
shifted somewhat with the first-time visitors: they were more likely to judge the event inexpensive
than the repeat visitors were.
The number of participants (museums as well as visitors) has increased in the course of the
successive "Long Museum Nights" – proof that such programmes offer an attractive "highlight"
in museum activity.
