Lambertus-Basilika
The Schlossturm (castle tower) on Burgplatz
in Düsseldorf is only a stone’s throw
away from the Rheinuferpromenade
(promenade on the banks of the Rhine
River) and is one of the Düsseldorf’s landmarks.
The tower is all that remains of a
former Renaissance castle from the 16th
century.

Art collection K 20, K 21
Since its foundation, the Kunstsammlung
NRW K 20 (Art Collection North Rhine-
Westphalia K 20) has earned an international
reputation as a museum for the
art of the 20th century. The collection includes
major works by Pablo Picasso, Paul
Klee, Andy Warhol and Joseph Beuys,
among others.
The art collection K 21 focuses on international
artists from the field of
contemporary art. In the beautifully renovated
old Ständehaus, works of art by
more than 50 artists as well as changing
exhibitions and exhibits are displayed
on five floors and over 5,300 m 2 .
The oldest church in Düsseldorf is dir ectly
next to the Rheintreppen (stairs to the
Rhine River). The gothic church that dates
from the 14th century is particularly known
for its crooked spire.
6 Düsseldorf – Medienhafen
The Medienhafen (media port) is at the
foot of the telecommunications tower and
has developed into a popular “in place”
within the last couple of years. On the one
hand, the spectacular and architecturally
exceptional buildings draw visitors from
far and wide, while on the other hand, the
many restaurants and the lively pub scene
make it hard for visitors to leave again.
The special atmosphere of the media port
is created by modern architecture including
the buildings by Frank Gehry and historical
buildings like the Alte Speicherhaus
(old granary). Old and new in perfect harmony!

The Kom(m)ödchen (cabaret stage) in Düsseldorf
was founded as early as in 1947
and resides on the premises of the Kunsthalle
Düsseldorf in the historic city centre
of Düsseldorf today. It has always
delighted its audience with rather special
cabaret shows. Shows like “Couch. Ein
Heimatabend” (Couch. A night at home) or
“Sushi. Ein Requiem” (Sushi. A requiem)
are very popular and always manage to

Marionettentheater
The Marionettentheater (puppet theatre)
Düsseldorf offers its audience a broad
var iety of fairy tales, dramas, fables and
musical theatre. There are special shows
for adults as well as for children from the
age of eight. By now, the theatre has a
collection of more than 500 puppets that
have seen much of the world as the company
also goes on tour. Even in today’s
world of modern technology, a puppet
show is still an experience you will not
likely forget.
The Königsallee is the most famous street
in Düsseldorf and is counted among the
best-known shopping streets worldwide.
Every year, several million people stroll
down the Königsallee to shop in some of
the most prestigious international fashion
boutiques. The many cafés and restaurants
on Königsallee are also a big
attraction. Maybe it’ll be your lucky day
and you will spot one of the many VIPs in
town as Düsseldorf’s shopping street is
also very popular with national and international
stars.

Botanischer Garten
The beautiful botanical garden is part of
the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf
and is the perfect spot for romantic walks
in the middle of the city on sunny days.
The conservatory with its beautiful domed
roof is open all year round.
9 Düsseldorf – historic city centre
The historic city centre of Düsseldorf is
famous throughout the world for its many
pubs, bars and restaurants and is a real
magnet for tourists and locals alike. The
city’s old, and traditional brew houses are
particularly popular. For example, the brew
houses Im Füchschen, Zum Uerigen or the
public houses of the Schuhmacher brewery
have been part of the city for many
generations and have always been places
for communication and cosiness. During
the summer months you can spot people
enjoying the delicious ‘Altbier’ (beer specialty)
in front of the pub while they talk
or simply watch the goings-on in the historic
city centre. One thing is certain: the

The Kunstakademie Düsseldorf
The Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Art Academy
Düsseldorf) was founded by the electoral
prince Carl Theodor as the Electoral
Palatine Academy for painting, sculpture
and the art of construction in 1773. The
Düsseldorf Academy is an academy for art
and for artists. Here, artistic activity is carried
out in the tradition of the liberal arts.
Apart from painting, sculpture and graphic
arts, it also includes architecture, stage
design, photography, film and video.
