The association caratart e.V. has
shown how to help the visual art of
young, lesser-known artists to to make
it into the wider world with a great event
in and around the carathotel Basel. The
“Vision & Sounds” event in Weil am
Rhein began “Epsiode 1” of an art exhibition
that was unexpectedly true-to-life,
covering the broad corridors of the carathotel
Basel.
Among the broad diversity of impressions
that hotel guests and an unexpectedly
large number of visitors could
marvel at were paintings and collages
by modern artists like Bombolo, Stefan
Stichler and Hannah Feigl, fascinating
wooden sculptures by Hendrik “Hendoc“
Docken and playful creations by artists

Here, away from old-fashioned museums,
young artists have a platform
to present their work to a broader public,
drawing on a great amount of artistic
courage and creative freshness. This
showcased a truly exemplary diversity
of talent, and a variety that is unique
to modern visual art. And this was exactly
what the extraordinary art exhibition
“Episode 1” was aiming for. It was
not the intention to highlight a specific
theme from a specific artistic perspective
in the scope of a carefully selected
exhibition. On the contrary, the idea of
the event was to show a diversity of creative
reality that is especially inherent to
younger and lesser-known artists.
This is absolutely in line with the
mission of caratart e.V., the force behind
this extraordinary art exhibition. The intention
of the association is to give a
platform to young artists on which they
can show their works of art and network
with other creative people. The concept
of an art exhibition in a hotel makes this
possible in a very special highly effective
way. And it is not just for art lovers.
Practically every hotel guest is given
the opportunity to meet and get familiar
with contemporary art on her or his own
terms.
Thus, “Episode 1” in the carathotel
Basel managed not only to reach the
public, but also to make real the vision
that led to the foundation of the association
caratart e.V. in the first place. The
intention was to create a platform in order
to help young artists to network better
and to support them in making their
work available to a broader public.
The grand opening event “Vision &
Sounds” that took place in June 2011 is
not the only activity that underlines the
impressive success of this intention. The
spectacular exhibition “caratart Episode
1” in the carathotel Basel also served to
prove its popularity. With the success
of this extraordinary art exhibition, it is
certain that similar events are to follow
“Episode 1”. The carathotels in Munich,
Frankfurt am Main and Düsseldorf offer
ideal art spaces that will make magical
and refreshing fusions of hotel buildings
art possible, just as it was in Weil am
Rhein. •
