Kick-about goals are not all the same
or - Is a kick-about goal a piece of play
equipment or sports equipment?
K
ick-about goals are often part of a multi-use games area and are
therefore tested in accordance with DIN EN 15312 (multi-use games
areas). However, it is often the case that these goals are stand-alone items
and then the question arises as to which testing standard is applicable.
As the DIN EN 1176 standard for playground equipment does not take kickabout
goals into account, testing institutes often fall back on the standard
for multi-use games areas – and this is when it starts to become problematic!
If the DIN EN 1176 standard is applied, the goal has to be regarded as a
piece of play equipment and all relevant regulations have to be observed.
First and foremost, these are the mesh size and the free fall height. If the
goals are to be considered climbable because of their mesh sizes, the free
fall height is usually approximately 2 metres. Suitable impact protection
has to be provided for! Whoever installs their goals in or on bark mulch or
sand, though!?
If the goal is tested in accordance with the regulations of DIN EN 15312,
most goals with rope nets fail. Under this standard, the goals are subject
to very stringent testing and requirements such as “The goal must be
constructed as to be not easily climbable. The goal must not be suitable
for sitting on. The mesh tensile strength must be at least 1800 N (180 kg)”
make up just one part of the standard.
The smb football goal citytor original 2 conforms to all requirements
of both DIN EN 1176 and DIN EN 15312 and can thus be used without
hesitation.
To avoid any unpleasant surprise in the case of follow-up checks by
independent experts it is advisable to look at this subject more closely. sich
park, it became apparent that the elaborate design was not the only hurdle to be
cleared. Instead of the standard water-permeable surfacing system, he requested
a smooth, smudge-proof and hardly inflammable surface, on which even
female visitors with stilettos don’t leave any dents or punctures. Besides, the surface
should not be produced in any colour, but in the original Pantone
colours of the Schmidt game. Procon manufactures and
installs thousands of square metres of shock-absorbing
surfacing every year. This combination, however, was
new – and a major challenge faced by managing
director Reinhard Bojahr and his staff.
In close and intensive co-operation with the
laboratories of suppliers of long standing,
such as Conica Technik or Melos GmbH, a surface
was developed that met all requirements.
Even the colours specified by licenser “Schmidt
Spiele” could be exactly reproduced. The worldfamous
lettering and the design were transferred
to templates, which were used to apply it in several
layers on site. The next challenge awaited Procon GmbH
at the amusement park itself: The Primeplay play unit – an
almost self-contained construction featuring posts, nets and slides – was already
completely installed. Hence the motto was:
Don’t get annoyed! Down on their knees and face down, the Procon employees proved
that they do their job with 100 per cent precision even in an unusual position.
And the result is really impressive: Besides a new surface, an unusual play
attraction with low-maintenance, permanently safe shock-absorbing surfacing
was created – thanks to which Tripsdrill can now call the world’s largest “Ludo”
game in the world its own. www.procon-gmbh.com
