Bibliothek
Das Statistische Bundesamt betreibt in Wiesbaden die größte Spezialbibliothek
für Statistik in Deutschland. Sie ist für die Literatur- und Informationsversorgung
im Statistischen Bundesamt zuständig. Die Bibliothek ist
auch ohne Voranmeldung öffentlich zugänglich, und zwar montags bis
donnerstags von 9 bis 15 Uhr, freitags bis 14 Uhr, in Wiesbaden, Gustav-
Stresemann-Ring 11.
Der Literaturbestand umfasst ca. 500 000 Medieneinheiten, wie Bücher, CD-
ROMs und Zeitschriftenbände sowie ca. 1 200 laufend gehaltene
Zeitschriften. Schwerpunktmaterialien sind
– aktuelle und ältere amtliche Statistiken des Bundes und der Länder,
– historische Statistiken des Deutschen Reiches und seiner Länder sowie
aus der ehemaligen DDR,
– Veröffentlichungen ausländischer Statistikämter, inter- und
supranationaler Organisationen,
– statistische Veröffentlichungen anderer Institutionen wie Ministerien und
Bundesbehörden,
– in- und ausländische Lehrbücher und Methodenliteratur zur Statistik,
– Publikationen von Wirtschaftsforschungs- und anderen wissenschaftlichen
Instituten sowie
– Hintergrundliteratur zu den verschiedensten statistikrelevanten Gebieten.
Die Online-Produkte des Statistischen Bundesamtes sind im Lesesaal der
Bibliothek auch externen Interessenten kostenfrei zugänglich.

Wenn Sie nicht wissen, welche Daten aus welchen statistischen Quellen
Ihnen weiterhelfen oder wie bestimmte statistische Daten zu interpretieren
sind, bieten Ihnen die verschiedenen Auskunftsdienste des Statistischen
Bundesamtes Beratung und Unterstützung bei der Datenrecherche und
-analyse.
Der Statistische Informationsservice ist zentrale Anlaufstelle für alle
Auskünfte quer über das gesamte Arbeitsgebiet der amtlichen Statistik. Sie
erreichen ihn telefonisch montags bis donnerstags von 8 bis 17 Uhr und
freitags bis 15 Uhr unter 06 11 / 75 – 24 05. Schriftliche Anfragen richten Sie

allgemeinen Auskunftsdienst.
Daneben stehen Ihnen für die einzelnen Themen der amtlichen Statistik

Für den Deutschen Bundestag, für die Ministerien und Behörden der
Bundesregierung, für Landesvertretungen, Botschaften sowie die in Berlin
ansässigen Wirtschaftsverbände bietet das Statistische Bundesamt mit
seinem i-Punkt Berlin einen Service in der Hauptstadt. Dieser ist gleichzeitig
mit dem »Infoservice International« und dem »EDS Europäischer
Datenservice« bundesweiter Ansprechpartner für Daten der internationalen

Library
In Wiesbaden, the Federal Statistical Office operates the most
comprehensive German library specialised in statistical literature. Its main
task is to provide the staff of the Office with literature and information. The
library located in Gustav-Stresemann-Ring 11 in Wiesbaden is open also to
the general public from Monday to Thursday from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm and
Friday from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm.
The library stocks about 500,000 units of various media, such as books, CD-
ROMs and volumes of periodicals, and approximately 1,200 current
periodicals. The materials include mainly the following:
– current and older official statistics of the Federation and the Länder
– historical statistics of the German Reich and its Länder and also of the
former GDR
– publications of foreign statistical offices and of international and
supranational organisations
– statistical publications of other institutions such as ministries and
federal authorities
– German and foreign textbooks and statistics-related methodological
literature
– publications of economic and other scientific research institutes, and
– background literature regarding a wide range of areas that are relevant to
statistics
In the reading room of the library, interested parties from outside have free
access to the online products of the Federal Statistical Office, too.

Information
You may not know what data from what sources of statistics would be helpful
for your purposes or how to interpret certain statistical results. In those
cases, the various information services of the Federal Statistical Office will be
there to advise and assist you with your data research and analysis.
The Statistical Information Service is the central service to provide
information across the whole range of official statistics. The services
telephone (+49 – 611) 75 – 24 05 is manned Monday to Thursday from
8.00 am to 5.00 pm and Friday from 8.00 to 3.00 pm. You may as well
contact the general information service in writing by completing the contact
form provided on the internet at www.destatis.de/kontakt.
Besides, there are specialised information services to help you with the
individual subjects of official statistics. The telephone numbers and e-mail
addresses of those services are indicated at the end of the relevant chapters
of the Statistical Yearbook under the headline »Publications and
information«.
The Berlin Information Point is a service centre set up by the Federal
Statistical Office in the German capital to supply information to the German
Bundestag, ministries and authorities of the federal government,
representative organs of the Länder, embassies and business associations
located in Berlin. Together with the »Infoservice International« and the »EDS
European Data Service«, it is at the same time a nation-wide contact point for
obtaining data of international and European statistics. The Berlin

Information requests by journalists, which usually need to be dealt with
immediately, are in goods hands at the journalist information service of the
