to wander with his sheep from one farm to the next in search<br />
of the right food. From mid-November to mid-March Michael<br />
Cadenazzi roams across the meadows in the valley – but this<br />
time without his family. During the long winter months he only<br />
sees his wife and children when they come to visit him and, of<br />
course, at Christmas.<br />

Umso mehr geniessen die fünf Cadenazzis den gemeinsamen Alpsommer.<br />
Der Genuss kommt jedoch mit viel Arbeit daher: Rund um die Uhr ist der Schäfer<br />
für seine Tiere verantwortlich und begleitet sie von frühmorgens bis spätabends.<br />
Er hütet sie und schaut, dass die Feinschmecker genügend Futter<br />
vorfinden. Dabei wird Michael Cadenazzi von seinen Hunden unterstützt.<br />
Sie gehorchen ihm aufs Wort und auf den Pfiff. Sie sind unverzichtbare Partner<br />
für den Schäfer. Vor allem für die Sicherheit der Tiere ist das gute Zusammenspiel<br />
zwischen den Hunden und Michael Cadenazzi entscheidend. Im <strong>Sommer</strong><br />
drohen ihren Schützlingen Abstürze im felsigen Gelände und im Winter unübersichtliche<br />
Strassenquerungen. Erst dank den Hütehunden können die Schafe<br />
zusammengetrieben und die grosse Herde beisammengehalten werden.<br />

them from first thing in the morning to last thing at night. He<br />
looks after them and makes sure that the hungry beasts get<br />
plenty to eat. Michael’s dogs play an important role. They obey<br />
his every word and are quick to react to his whistle. They are<br />
indispensable partners for any shepherd. Good teamwork<br />
between Cadenazzi and his dogs is particularly important for<br />
the safety of the animals. In the summer, his charges are in<br />
danger of plunging from the rocky heights; in winter, unclear<br />
road crossings are a problem. The sheep dogs round up the<br />
large flock and keep it together.<br />
Other threats also loom large for the shepherd and his flock: so<br />
far they have been spared from the wolf, but common ravens<br />
