which exist today; direction posts, “Blood
Wagons”, the patrols and the SOS telephone
communications were all the outcome of
his ideas and it was not only the Club that
owed him a large debt of gratitude but all
Parsenn skiers too. When Frederick Edlin
died in·1947, his ashes, at his wish, were interred
in a rock built “Schonblick” erected
on the Parsenn Furka.
In that first season the Club opened
on December 16th, 1929, with 2 Honorary
Members, 5 Foundation Members and I Ordinary
Member-a total of 8. It closed its first
season on March 1st, 1930, with 4 Honorary
Members, 17 Foundation Members, 36
Ordinary Members, and 1 Junior Member-a
total of 58. So started Marden’s Club. From
that moment onwards, the “build-up” of the
Club continued to its present standing of
over 740 Members. Jock's confidence then
was not misplaced, and it is not surprising
that, in 1952, in his Story of Skiing, Sir
Arnold Lunn refers to Marden’s as “that
splendid racing Club.” The Club has kept
its headquarters in Klosters and also the
bat emblem Jock Marden designed all those
years ago. His spirit is alive and well in our
Club today!
