New office in Spain
Danish ship design expert Knud E.
Hansen has opened a new office in
Cadiz, Spain. The office will specialize
in HVAC, under the brand-name Marine
HVAC Design providing engineering
solutions for the Spanish market and
around the world. It will be involved in
all stages, from conceptual through detailed
design, as well as coordination
and integration of systems, project management
and on-site supervision. Finn
Wollesen, Managing Director, Knud
E. Hansen, stated »Spain represents a
growing market with vast opportunities
in the maritime sector. A local office
and permanent presence will allow
us to focus specifically on the Spanish
market. The Spanish team is comprised
of HVAC engineers that have been part
of the company for up to 10 years. n
TEKNOTHERM
Orders for fishing vessels from Spain
The Norwegian HVAC supplier Teknotherm
has been awarded the delivery
of complete HVAC systems
from Spanish shipyard Astilleros
de Murueta, for a Live Fish Carrier
(LFC) owned by Alsaker Fjordbruk
AS in western Norway, scheduled
for delivery in 2020. The vessel, to be
named »Kristoffer Tronds«, is 90,7 m
long and 18,6 m wide, and has a well

Low viscosity refrigerant for use down to -50°C
capacity of more than 5,000 m3. In addition,
Teknotherm received an order
for the delivery of complete HVAC
systems to newbuild no. 480 to be
built at Gondan Shipyard in Spain,
for the shipowner Prestfjord AS. The
77 m long stern trawler is designed
by Rolls-Royce (NVC 372), and will
have accommodation for 29 persons.
Delivery is scheduled for May 2020.n
With a new product, the Hamburg-based
company Tyforop Chemie
wants to establish higher cooling capacities
with lower energy costs on the
market. Whether for the sea transport
of tropical fruits, meat and other temperature-controlled
goods or for the
shock freezing of fish in industrial fishing,
the demands placed on modern refrigerants
in shipping are high and varied.
The goods must be kept at a constant
low temperature for their shelf life or the
freshly caught fish must be reliably frozen
to sub-zero temperatures in seconds.
In addition, high-performance refrigerants
must have another important
property in the area of food transport -
absolute non-toxicity. Only in this way
can contamination of the goods with
substances harmful to health be ruled
out in the event of leaks.
Tyforop Chemie now offers »Tyfoxit
F50«, a glycol-free refrigerant based on
potassium formate that is easily biodegradable.
According to the manufacturer,
this refrigerant with extremely low
viscosity is harmless to health and suitable
for refrigerated shipping when used in
refrigeration systems with indirect cooling.
The finished mixture has an extreme
temperature resistance of -50° to +80°C
and has already proven itself at sea, for
example in the shock freezing of freshly
caught wild salmon in the Pacific North
Polar Sea or on banana freighters from
Central America to Europe. According
to the manufacturer, »Tyfoxit F50«
makes it possible to achieve higher cooling
capacities in existing plants and at the
same time reduce energy costs. When redesigning
refrigeration systems, the new
method makes it possible to install systems
with more compact dimensions on
the reefer vessels. The non-toxic, almost
odourless liquids each contain a borax-,
nitrite-, amine- and phosphate-free inhibitor
system. The long-term corrosion
protection of »Tyfoxit F50« includes all
materials commonly used in refrigeration
plant construction.

NOVENCO MARINE &
OFFSHORE
RoPax-Orders
from China
Guangzhou Shipyard International in
China has placed an order for Novenco
Marine & Offshore to deliver full
HVAC/R systems, design and commissioning
for a RoPax ferry to Algerian
shipping company ENTMV
along with 2+2 DFDS RoPax ferries.
The cooperation between Guangzhou
Shipyard International and Novenco
Marine & Offshore goes back more
than 30 years and has resulted in Novenco
systems in more than 100 vessels
to international shipowners, including
many Danish shipowners like
Norden, Maersk and Torm. »The recent
ferry orders are a result of many
years of cooperation with GSI, but
also an increased focus on strengthening
the commercial ties between
China and Denmark in general.
Both GSI and Novenco participated
in the Denmark Days a year ago,
where HRH Crown Prince Frederik of
Denmark joined an event in Guangzhou.
This national support benefits
companies in Denmark like Novenco,
because even though shipbuilding
is outsourced to China, many of
the related deliveries will be awarded
back to Danish companies,« said
