ahr für Jahr wachsen die Malediven um
ein rundes Dutzend neuer Hotel-Inseln
im Luxus-Segment. Wirklich neu präsentieren
sich die meisten davon aber nicht,
man setzt gerne auf Bewährtes. War es das,
was David Tsang dazu inspiriert hat, Luxus
auf den Malediven komplett neu zu denken?
Wie auch immer, so wie auf den Fari Islands
haben Sie die Malediven noch nie erlebt, versprochen.
Wo vor Kurzem noch nichts war,
außer einem unbewohnten Inselchen etwa
eine dreiviertel Bootsstunde vom internationalen
Flughafen Velana im Nord-Malé-Atoll,
nicht größer als ein Fußballfeld, wetteifern
jetzt drei aus dem Indischen Ozean gewonnene
Eilande darum, welches von ihnen das
schönste, exklusivste und vor allem das nachhaltigste ist. Genauer gesagt sind es vorerst
noch zwei, das dritte Resort, Capella Maldives ist erst noch im Werden. Die Capella
Group mit Sitz in Singapur (und da schließt sich der Kreis zu David Tsang aus
der Besitzerfamilie) ist auch der Geld- und Ideengeber für dieses wahrlich innovative
Konzept. Und das ist ebenso schlüssig wie genial: Drei Inseln in Sichtweite, nur ein
paar Bootsminuten voneinander entfernt, drei unterschiedliche Resorts: Patina (eine
Capella-Tochter), Ritz-Carlton, Capella, drei verschiedenen Hotelmarken. Und als gemeinsame
Base eine schicke Marina, in der die Gäste aller drei Inseln in einem halben
Dutzend Restaurants speisen, im Beach Club chillen, in Boutiquen shoppen und an
der Bar abhängen können.
Das Beste daran: Wo anders nur von Nachhaltigkeit gesprochen wird, weil es im Trend
liegt, wird auf den Inseln diese Nachhaltigkeit aus Überzeugung gelebt, alles Plastik
wurde aus den Resorts verbannt. Vom Betrieb von Solarpanels für Villen und Buggies
und dem Recycling von Plastik aus dem Meer bis hin zu kostenlosen Tauchkursen, um
Kindern den Respekt für die Umwelt, den Ozeanen und den Planeten beizubringen –
auf den Fari Islands ist das Engagement für den Umweltschutz ein entscheidender Teil
der Unternehmensphilosophie. So schön kann Grün sein.

Kennen Sie das: Sie sind zum ersten Mal an einem Ort, und es kommt Ihnen alles
vertraut vor? Nur viel stylischer, großzügiger, schöner? Das ist Patina Maldives Fari
Islands. Das Design der Flachdach-Bungalows erinnert ein wenig an Corbusier und
Frank Lloyd Wright, der brasilianische Architekt Marcio Kogan und sein Team von
Studio MK27 haben es aber perfekt verstanden, die klaren Formen mit Leben zu füllen.
Das viele Holz, das in allen Schattierungen auf Patina Maldives dominiert, und
der Retro Stil in vielerlei Details tun ein Übriges dazu, dass sich der Gast zu Hause
fühlt, sobald er die Insel betritt. Hier findet jeder schnell seinen Lieblingsplatz auf
der Insel. Unterstützt wird er dabei von seinem „Essentialist“, der weit mehr ist als ein
Butler. Er begleitet seine Gäste auf Wunsch bei allen Aktivitäten, kümmert sich um die
Tauchausrüstung, bringt die Kleinen in den Kids Club und bucht Plätze in einem der
zwölf Restaurants. Und die haben wahrlich einiges zu bieten. Vegetarische Küche in
Bestform kommt im Roots auf den Tisch, das (höchst ungewöhnlich) zugleich auch
das Gourmetrestaurant der Insel ist, mediterrane Küche gibt es im Helios, flambierte
Fleischgerichte aus der Region Patagonien im Brasa und eine Mischung aus japanischer
und nordischer Küche im Kõen. Dazu kommen Snacks am Pool an der Veli Bar
und süße Köstlichkeiten im Farine.
Ein Teil dieser Genusstempel liegt im Fari Marina Village am Rande der Insel. Galerien,
Bars, eine Bäckerei, Food Trucks wie der Go Go Burger oder Tum Tum, ein
Airstream mit asiatischen Köstlichkeiten machen den Besuch des Village zum besonderen
Erlebnis. Dazu kommen zwei Modeläden, wie sie auch in Paris oder London
stehen könnten. Das Resort bietet insgesamt 90 Strand- und Wasservillen, die
sich diskret in die Vegetation der Insel einfügen. Schon die kleinsten sind mit 170
Quadratmetern mehr als ausreichend dimensioniert. Highlight ist dabei das großzügige
Deck mit Pool, Hängematte und Außenbadewanne, das dank des vorgezogenen
Dachs den Living Room ins Freie verlängert.
ILLUSTRE RUNDE
Damit befindet sich Patina Maldives in bester Gesellschaft. Denn auch der Nachbar
Ritz-Carlton zeigt sich offen für die Schönheiten des Indischen Ozeans: Geschwungene
Wände mit versenkbaren Schiebetüren und ein geschwungenes Deck, das zu einem
privaten Infinity-Pool führt, lassen bei den hundert eleganten Villen die Grenzen
zwischen innen und außen verschwimmen und unterstreichen den atemberaubenden
Panoramablick bis zum Horizont. Ganz ohne Ecken und Kanten hat Architektenlegende
Kerry Hill das Ritz-Carlton Maldives geplant. Die kreisförmige Architektur
soll dabei den Kreislauf des (Insel)Lebens und die Wellen des Ozeans symbolisieren.

Every year, a dozen new hotel islands in the luxury segment are added to the Maldives.
However, most of them are not really new; they like to rely on the tried and tested. Was it
this that inspired David Tsang to completely rethink luxury in the Maldives? However,
you have never experienced the Maldives like on the Fari Islands, I promise. Where not
long ago there was nothing but an uninhabited islet about three quarters of an hour
by boat from Velana International Airport in the North Malé Atoll, no bigger than a
football field, now three islets reclaimed from the Indian Ocean are vying to see which
of them is the most beautiful, the most exclusive and above all the most sustainable.
To be precise, there are still two for the time being, the third resort, Capella Maldives is
still in the process of being built. The Capella Group, based in Singapore (and here we
come full circle to David Tsang from the owning family), is also the provider of money
and ideas for this truly innovative concept. And it is as coherent as it is ingenious: three
islands within sight of each other, only a few minutes by boat, three different resorts:
Patina (a Capella subsidiary), Ritz-Carlton, Capella, three different hotel brands. And
as a common base, a chic marina where guests of all three islands can dine in half a
dozen restaurants, chill in the beach club, shop in boutiques and hang out at the bar.
The best thing about it: where elsewhere people only talk about sustainability because it
is trendy, on the islands this sustainability is lived out of conviction, all plastic has been
banned from the resorts. From running solar panels for villas and buggies and recycling
plastic from the sea to offering free scuba diving courses to teach children respect for the
environment, the oceans and the planet - at Fari Islands, commitment to environmental
protection is a crucial part of the corporate philosophy. Green can be this beautiful.

Have you ever been to a place for the first time and everything seems familiar? Only
much more stylish, more spacious, more beautiful? That‘s Patina Maldives Fari Islands.
The design of the flat-roof bungalows is somewhat reminiscent of Corbusier and Frank
Lloyd Wright, but Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan and his team from Studio MK27
have understood perfectly how to fill the clear forms with life. The abundance of wood,
which dominates in all shades on Patina Maldives, and the retro style in many details
do the rest to make guests feel at home as soon as they enter the island. Everyone quickly
finds their favourite spot on the island. One is supported by an „essentialist“, who is
much more than a butler. If desired, he accompanies his guests on all activities, takes
care of the diving equipment, brings the little ones to the Kids Club and books seats in
one of the twelve restaurants. And they really have a lot to offer. Vegetarian cuisine at its
best is served at Roots which - most unusually - is also the island‘s gourmet restaurant,
Mediterranean cuisine is served at Helios, flambéed meat dishes from the Patagonia
region at Brasa and a mixture of Japanese and Nordic cuisine at the Kõen. In addition
to that: poolside snacks are served at Veli Bar and sweet delights at Farine. Some of
these temples of pleasure are located in Fari Marina Village on the edge of the island.
Galleries, bars, a bakery, food trucks like the Go Go Burger or Tum Tum, an Airstream
with Asian delicacies make a visit to the Village a special experience. And there are
two fashion shops that could also be found in Paris or London. The resort offers a total
of 90 beach and water villas that blend discreetly into the island‘s vegetation. Even the
smallest ones are more than adequately sized at 170 square metres. The highlight is the
spacious deck with pool, hammock and outdoor bathtub, which, thanks to the extended
roof, extends the living room into the open air.
ILLUSTRIOUS ROUND
The Patina Maldives is in the best of company. Its neighbour, the Ritz-Carlton, is also
dedicated to the beauty of the Indian Ocean: curved walls with retractable sliding doors
and a curved deck leading to a private infinity pool, blur the boundaries between inside
and outside in the one hundred elegant villas and emphasise the breathtaking panoramic
view to the horizon. Architectural legend Kerry Hill designed the Ritz-Carlton
Maldives without any corners or edges. The circular architecture is intended to symbolise
