What begins here is an adventurous journey through a
world made up of dreams sometimes nightmares, a
journey as characterized by hunger, brutality and social
injustice as it is by the land of gimmickry. And Pinocchio,
the harlequin whose nose grows longer whenever he
lies, proves to be more than a cute wooden puppet; he
reveals himself to be just as much a creature with a cruel
streak, and he inconsiderately demands that his needs
be quickly satisfied. At the end of his journey he
becomes tamed by a society unable to tolerate such a
lack of restraint without being shaken at its very
foundation.
No in Lous Leben.
Lou Bertignac is thirteen. Her classmates say that she is
a freak. Lou has few friends at school, none actually.
Only Lucas, the coolest of all the students, swoons over
her. Many things at school strike Lou as peculiar. She
has skipped two grades already and has an IQ of 160.
She would like most to be like the other classmates and
think about the best direction to move one’s tongue when
kissing. Then No enters Lou’s life. No is eighteen and
she lives on the streets of Paris. No and Lou become
friends, and Lou wants to help her new friend. But is
friendship the best way to pull No away from street life
and teenage prostitution?
Anderer.
Two hands. They can wave to you in greeting or wave to
say goodbye. They can type, tickle and touch things.
They meet and invite each other to play together. Feet
are better if you want to tip-toe around or scuttle, stomp
or hop. They can run away and come back again. They
can be barefoot or in shoes. And funnily enough, if your
foot suddenly finds itself in a shoe that is new, you’re a
different person altogether!
Krisen bedrohten Lebenskunst.
Christian Kracht’s portrait of a modern generation of
consumers expresses the opposite of the angry Pop
literature linked with the Beat Generation. Kracht’s
protagonist is not a rebel, and indignation is his parents’
problem. He has made himself comfortable in the middle
class and cultivated his aimless drifting about without
highlights in a world where individuality has been undone
by brand names. Apart from his own personal hedonism,
his task in life is to not take part in anything at all. He
pioneers an art of living currently being threatened from
anew by annoying crises.
