option leading to too many choices that could<br />

complicate decisions (mean = 3.24), but respondents<br />

were at the same time in favour of customised<br />

house for the flexible price it offers (mean = 3.95)<br />

and for the wastage it avoids (mean = 4.01). In<br />

fact, the Chi-square test of independence showed<br />

significance of association between the two latter<br />

variables and the importance factor at α = 0.05<br />

level of significance. Also evident was the fact that<br />

between current owners and first time buyers, the<br />

latter were more in favour of customised housing<br />

on every aspect evaluated, as statistics in Table 6<br />

make clear.<br />

How do dissatisfied owners compare against<br />

the satisfied group in terms of the renovation<br />

details? The data is shown in Table 7. For the first<br />

renovation, three items emerged as most commonly<br />

pursued by the owners: door grille, window grille<br />

and repainting. In this respect, there were little differences<br />

between the satisfied and dissatisfied<br />

groups as in Table 7 with a vast majority spending<br />

on these three items. This means that the three<br />

items were basic necessities to owners regardless of<br />

whether they were satisfied or dissatisfied. Of the<br />

three, two were related to security while the other<br />

was repainting job.<br />

The dissatisfied owners appeared to have done<br />

more in terms of the counts on the renovation jobs<br />

done, doing an average of 5.55 pieces of renovation<br />

jobs per person. This figure is, however, only<br />

marginally (6%) higher than the satisfied group, at<br />
