Adult Basic Skills (ABS)
ABS classes are designed for students who do not have
a high school diploma and need to review and improve
basic reading, math and language skills. Students in ABS
classes may be referred to the GED Test Prep classes once
these skills have been improved.
To be eligible for free ABS classes, students must be
age 16 or older and be officially withdrawn from high
school. Please call 410-777-1823 to make an appointment
for an orientation session prior to starting class.

Find out if you are ready for the General Education
Development (GED) test by taking the Official GED Practice
Test. Review results immediately following the test and
find out whether you should take the GED test or register
for Adult Basic Skills (ABS) or GED Test Prep classes. The cost
is $20* payable by check, credit card or money order only.
Preregistration is required. Call 410-777-1823 to
register to take the practice test at one of the following

GED Test Prep Classes
Get ready for the GED test with two classes specifically
designed to review the skills you need. The 27.5-hour
GED Math and Transition Preparation class provides an
overview of math problems, strategies for test-taking
skills and important information on postsecondary
education and career options. The 25-hour Writing and
Reading Test Preparation class provides a refresher on
grammar, reading comprehension and essay writing.
These fast-paced classes are for advanced students
who have a strong foundation in reading, math and
language skills. To register for GED Test Prep classes,
you must attend an orientation session or take the GED
Practice Test and receive qualifying scores.
The math class is $76 and the writing and reading
class is $69. Textbooks and supplies are included. Take
both classes for $130.
This class is partially funded by a grant from
Maryland Literacy Works and the U.S. Department of
Education. Scholarships are available through AACC. To
qualify, students must take the GED Practice Test and be
referred by AACC basic skills staff.
GED Online Review
Are you a self-motivated, independent learner? Do you
need a flexible schedule that allows you to study anytime?
Do you have regular access to the Internet? If you
answered yes to these three questions, call
410-777-1826 and ask about the Online GED. To determine
eligibility, students must attend an orientation
session.
The total cost of this project is $509,893 of which 50 percent ($255,970) is funded through the
U.S. Department of Education, 30 percent ($153,988) is funded through the
State of Maryland, Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation and 20 percent ($99,935)
is supported by Anne Arundel Community College.
