Learn the basics of wheel-thrown pottery in a studio setting.
Use stoneware clay and electric wheels to practice centering
and forming basic shapes such as bowls, cylinders and plates.
Learn the properties of clay, terminology and decorative glazing

intermediate pottery wheel
Expand knowledge of basic pottery, emphasizing advanced
instruction to strengthen pottery wheel skills. Create larger,
more complicated forms. Shape lids for jars and containers,
form spouts for pitchers, pull and attach clay handles. Learn
decorative techniques, how to alter forms, slip application,
washes and wax resist. Enrollment limit: 5. $250† includes
$198 fee.
Prerequisite: ARS 311 Basic Pottery Wheel or equivalent experience
recommended.
Note: Bring a basic pottery tool kit, small bucket and sponge for
class. Lab fee includes first 20 lbs. of clay and one firing. Suggested

reliquary, also known as a small shrine. Borrow from
techniques used in medieval and Byzantine art to build and
embellish a personalized shrine with a variety of materials
