26. On the night of December 20, the enemy struck at the left
flank of the 3d Battalion, 501 st Parachute Infantry. This
scene from the outskirts of Neffe shows the enemy preparing
for the attack. The American position is on the
crest of the hill to the left. The little village of Mont is in
the center draw, and the barbed-wire fences, so costly to
the enemy, are to the right of the pine grove.
