A visit was made to the R.H.E. Centre dur<strong>in</strong>g the Rally <strong>of</strong> H.M.I.'s and County<br />
Organisers to <strong>Wiltshire</strong>. Great <strong>in</strong>terest was shown <strong>in</strong> the full-time course and the<br />
extra mural work be<strong>in</strong>g done.<br />
Lectures and Demonstrations: 134 were carried out, both at <strong>Lackham</strong> and <strong>in</strong> the<br />
County.<br />
Judg<strong>in</strong>g: Three day schools were held for Judg<strong>in</strong>g for the W.I. Denman Cup, one at<br />
<strong>Lackham</strong> and two <strong>in</strong> the County. Judg<strong>in</strong>g was carried out on 23 occasions.<br />
Miss Dunn attended 16 Committee Meet<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>of</strong> the W.I. Produce<br />
Guild, Agriculture and Denman Cup Committees, Y.F.C. Rally and<br />
Girls Committees, and Inter Women's Organisation Competition<br />
Committee.<br />
The Inter Women's Organisation Competition was staged at the<br />
Y.F.C. Rally at Bowood with 50 entries. This Competition is now a<br />
feature <strong>of</strong> rural life <strong>in</strong> <strong>Wiltshire</strong> and is ga<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a reputation <strong>in</strong> the<br />

RURAL HOME ECONOMICS<br />
ONE YEAR FULL-TIME COURSE<br />
From 1953 to 1959, women students were accepted for the National Certificate <strong>in</strong><br />
Agriculture adapted course, and one day a week they came to the Rural Home<br />
Economics kitchen, Hill Street, Trowbridge, for <strong>in</strong>struction <strong>in</strong> Rural Home Economics.<br />
It was decided to close this course <strong>in</strong> July 1959, with the objective that the College<br />
would have its own centre and women's hostel and have a course <strong>in</strong> Agriculture with<br />
Home Economics.<br />
There were the usual ups and downs <strong>in</strong> the high politics <strong>of</strong> obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g permission for<br />
this course and the f<strong>in</strong>ance for the build<strong>in</strong>gs. F<strong>in</strong>ally, the Scott Baker Hostel was<br />
built, followed by the Rural Home Economics centre. The National Certificate <strong>in</strong><br />
Rural Home Economics Course commenced <strong>in</strong> September 1964 - the name <strong>of</strong> the<br />
course was changed to the National Certificate <strong>in</strong> Agriculture with Home Economics<br />
<strong>in</strong> September 1975.<br />
Below is the list <strong>of</strong> the number <strong>of</strong> women students attend<strong>in</strong>g these courses, mak<strong>in</strong>g a<br />
total <strong>of</strong> 217 for the R.H.E. Course, plus approximately 36 for the adapted course.<br />
