The Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Services Agency, a Government Manpower organisation, held its<br />
first <strong>Lackham</strong> course start<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> September 1976 with 15 students <strong>in</strong><br />
Gardens, Grounds and Woods Ma<strong>in</strong>tenance. The T.S.A. seems likely to become<br />
a major part <strong>of</strong> the education and tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g scene <strong>in</strong> the future.<br />
JOB CREATION<br />
This may be an ephemeral event and just <strong>of</strong>f the educational map, but<br />
schemes are 'afloat' for a 1977 job creation scheme to do with conservation,<br />
ponds and woods. (Fenc<strong>in</strong>g, th<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g and plant<strong>in</strong>g).<br />

CITY AND GUILDS 013 GREENKEEPERS' CERTIFICATE<br />
A day release class course for the <strong>Wiltshire</strong> and nearby county green-keep<strong>in</strong>g<br />
staff seems likely to start <strong>in</strong> January 1977.<br />
CITY AND GUILDS O11 STAGE 2 HORTICULTURE<br />
Application has been made to start the course from September 1977.[i]<br />
HORTICULTURE INCENTIVE SCHEMES<br />
The horticultural <strong>in</strong>centive schemes under the <strong>Agricultural</strong> Wages Board have<br />
not affected the horticultural staff. The conditions <strong>of</strong> service are those<br />
under the Western District Council scale which have permitted a Productivity<br />
Bonus Scheme. Follow<strong>in</strong>g work measurement, some areas <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>creased<br />
productivity were found to be acceptable for productivity bonus. The scheme<br />
came <strong>in</strong>to function<strong>in</strong>g operation <strong>in</strong> the Summer <strong>of</strong> 1976. S<strong>in</strong>ce the acceptance<br />
<strong>of</strong> the scheme <strong>in</strong> 1975, sav<strong>in</strong>gs from <strong>in</strong>creased productivity resulted <strong>in</strong> a<br />
bonus payment <strong>of</strong> 12.92p per hour for the Horticultural Craft Staff. [i]
