NGO historical aspects - Oxfam NZ start working in the Pacific in 1990. - First arrived in Bougainville in 1999, in the peak of the conflict in the region. Used to work with local NGOs has partners and later assumed their own projects because it was not working well. - PNG became more relevant for the degree of the problems: peace, HIV, gender violence… - In 2004, started to train local NGOs. 2. Organizational aspects - Office that manages projects for Oxfam NZ and Aus, not Oxfam PNG. - Four offices in the country: Bougainville and Goroka (NZ central office) and Wewak and Port Moresby (Aus). - Staff: 30 persons maximum in the four offices. 3. Networking and institutional relations - Some projects are still implemented by local partners NGOs with Oxfam capacity building and technical assistance. - They work with 11 local partners. 4. Juridical and legal aspects Part of the NZ and Aus Oxfam offices. 5. Financial aspects The office in Port Moresby is funded by Oxfam Aus through AusAID. Directly they have no relationship with AusAID – for 3 years it has been in transition until the launching of SPSN. 6. Activities and sectors Youth, disaster response, water/sanitation/health. Gender-based organization born in 2004. The members have past experience on women organizations (Susan Setae was the President of the National Council of Women). 2. Organizational aspects Staff: 1 full time worker + 15 volunteers. 6 coordinators in the Provinces: Northern Province, Central, Milne Bay, National Capital District, Gulf and Western Province. 3. Networking and institutional relations Partnerships with local NGOs and networking with INGOs – Oxfam, YWCA. 4. Juridical and legal aspects Registered in IPA, Port Moresby. 5. Financial aspects - Funds: from the Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee of the CIMC. - AusAID funds a project on elections - US will fund a Program on awareness for the next years. - Did not qualify for EU funding, very difficult procedures and criteria. The Forum has just one year of booking, EU demanded 2. They don’t have enough management capacity for this 6.
