1. NGO historical aspects
Founded in 1993 by Yati Bun, current Executive Director of FPCD. To support Papua New
Guineans to develop and manage their own forest resources through efficient management
environmental and economic and social benefits.
Before FPCD, it was The Foundation of the Peoples of the South Pacific, PNG Inc since 1993;
1997, changed to FPCD.
2. Organizational aspects
Covers entire PNG, both urban and rural areas.
It started with less than five, currently 22 staff, one volunteer (German). They normal have one
expatriate volunteer each year.
3. Networking and institutional relations
Member Eco-Forestry Forum, PIMNET (regional network), ANDRAC (international NGO, office in
Madang), FSPI (Foundation of the People of the South Pacific International), National Department
of Health, Department of Forest, Community Development, World Vision, City Mission, Climate
Change Office.
4. Juridical aspects
Registered with IPA as an NGO. Rego No. 5-666. Also has its own constitution.
5. Financial aspects
Furnishes annual account reports. Funding grants come from NZ Aid, AusAID, EU, EED, NORAD
(Norway), NZ High Commission, other donors for various projects.
6. Activities and sectors
Main sectors: Community development, forestry, water supply, health and climate change. Ecoforestry
programme, governance, capacity building (i.e. training, income generating activities,
exporting, helping them to export logs, timber) b. integrated community development program, do
awareness, water supply, agriculture, income generating activities, capacity building, c) advocacy,
organize forums and workshops, newsletter, attending international forums.
