Miriam Layton Vice President Location: Next to RaunraunThretre, Goroka Date: 30 th of August, 2010 History Young Woman Christian Association started in 1984. YWCA Goroka is afiliated to world YWCA. It is Catholic organisation. The vision of the world YWCA is of a fully inclusive world where justice, peace, health, human dignity, freedom and through women’s leadership. It was actually started with gthe following objectives: 1. Bringing togather women and girls of all lasses and creeds by offering them opportunties for their intellectual, spiritual and physical growth. 2. Encouirage the development of a sense of social responsibilty through service to the communtiy. 3. To promote religion, recreation, welfare schemes, social cultural progress and good fellowship for the women of Papua New Guinea in particular and for the people of Papua New Guinea. Organisational Aspects The association has 40 permanent staffs of which 20 are specially trained and stay at the project sites. These 20 people are paid but most of the rest are not paid but work volunteer base. The association consist of: Hostel Kindergarten Elementary Different Training Programs Networking and Institutional Relations Work in network with: Government agenices: Provincial AIDS Councils exccept Southern Highlands Goroka General Hospital Catholic Churches in: Chimbu province Eastern Highlands province Morobe province NGOs: CARE International in PNG Oxfam international Save the Children Clinton Foundation We are not rilly obliged to reprt. 86
Juridical and Lagal Aspects The association is formally registered with PNG Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) and is recognised by the provincial government of Eastern Highlands. Operates by major rules and governed by constitution. It is fully local NGO where most of the positions are occupied by the local nationals. Had a board of management who are responsible for bigger financial matters. The board of management meet every 2 years. The members are nominated are elected to the office. The board of management is made up of 10 people who are not paid but work on voluntary base. Financial Aspects Estimated operational budget is K1 million. We spend more money on expanses to run the association. We get our funding from: Laws and Justice sector (especially CJLU) Core Aid (Germany) National AIDS Council EU Most of this money comes from our own Kindergarten and re-school.
