Mary Domuki Turi Co-ordinator Location: North Goroka, EHP Date: 26 th of August, 2010 History Mary D. Turi is currently the deputy principal of the Nursing College. She is the fouder of this association which actually started in 2007 and now is almost 4 years in operation. She found out that many families in the communities lack basic knowledge fof looking after them, and so she established this association to help the people in the communities. Especially the young girls, some of which she engaged them to work with on volunteer base. Organisational Aspect Interestingly thelittle that she has been doing is by her and no other staffs. She has 6 volunteers, only the girls. Two of them, although they have not fully completed the formal schooling and more or less are illiterate, work with her in the office. She has been training them so they are capturing the knowledge to do the work. She arranges the nursing teacher and other professionals on volutary basis to assist her and that very much depends on the programs. Has not done much because to do the little that she has done so far were all her own pockets, and that she rilly needs support at this point in time to expand. Networking and Institutional Relations The only strong network she has is with the community, her own family members. But she also works with Mercy Works and Monpi Coffee (a privately owned company). Apart from that no others, even the government departments. Hopefully she would get some support from other NGOs but waiting for the right timing. Juridical and Legal Aspect The association has formally registered with the PNG Investment Promotion Authority (PNG IPA) and it has its bylaws or constitution. Appropriate provincial and district governments departments were also consulted before registering, therefore they know its existence. Finacial Aspects Never get support from any government departments. All the money and other necessary things she has been using in work come from her, her families and the communities. Activities and Sectors The focus is private nursing practices. Mostly to administer nursing education programs in the villages. Administer child rights program so as to get rid of child neglect. Focused on youth support to helping them to pursue in life, e.g. support those who are in schools finacially to complete their education. 82

Michael Kilau Program Coordinator Location: Young Christian Centre (YC Hall) - Goroka Date: 26 th of August, 2010 History Caritas is a church based internal organisation. The international head quarter office is in Rome and the national office in Port Moresby. Actually Caritas is some hundreds years old now since it started. Organisational Aspects We have 16 permanent staffs and 7 volunteers who have agreed to come on to help or assist when we come to implementation of activities. Apart from the seven volutary based staffs, there are other volunteers that are also taken on board depending on the programs. Networking and Institutional Relations Cariats is an international church based organisation which has many sub-offices in most parts of the country (PNG) as well as the world. H as no network except the Social Justice sector, where the sector helps Caritas in some of the programs it runs. Like the Child Rights Programs. Juridical and Legal Aspects It is formally registered and recognised organisation. Has bylaws and operates under the regulation of principles of the organisation. Recognised organisation meaning that thegovernment department responsible knows its existence. Directors and board members are elected but term of office before the next term was not given Financial Aspects No funding from other NGOs or donors. All that we do is funded by Caritas Australia. Then we do the acquittals and accoutable reports at the end of evry programs. We also submit a copy of our report to the Social Justice sector but that is only when they involve in the work we do, and that is basically the report of our work and not finance.
