8.0 Radioactive Waste Disposal Consequence
Assessment and Radiological Capacity
8.0.1 To determine the amount of radiological material that can be disposed of within
the site without exceeding the proposed dose criteria a series of consequence
and risk assessments have been undertaken. The consequence and risk
assessment for the disposal of LLW at the East Northants Resource
Management Facility is included in Annex B. Supplementary information on the
assessment methodology is included in Annex E.
8.0.2 An additional assessment of direct radiation dose to workers is included in
Annexes D and H.
8.0.3 The primary assessment has been carried out using the SNIFFER 2006 model
for assessing the suitability of controlled landfills to accept disposals of solid low
level radioactive waste. A range of 43 nuclides has been considered with their
associated daughters. The methodology for the other supplementary
assessments is described in the Annexes.
