MARINE MAMMAL OIL SPILL RESPONSE GUIDELINES<br />

Under the direction of the Wildlife Branch Director (WBD), the principal objectives of Wildlife<br />

Operations during spill response and cleanup are to:<br />

Provide the best achievable care to impacted and/or threatened wildlife<br />

Document for the Unified Command the immediate impacts of the oil spill to wildlife<br />

Minimize injuries to wildlife<br />

Protect wildlife and habitats from adverse effects of wildlife recovery<br />

To ensure these objectives are achieved with maximum efficiency, the WBD (in coordination<br />

with the Environmental Unit) manages the activities of the federal, state, and local agencies along<br />

with commercial and non-profit organizations responsible for wildlife protection and<br />

management who fall under the authority of the Unified Command during spill response<br />
