Exercise caution when approaching all animals, particularly<br />

Monitor all biopsy or tagging sites for possible infection;<br />

Use standardized, humane methods for sterilization and sample<br />
collection; and<br />
10) Use scientifically reviewed and acceptable tagging and biopsy<br />
sampling techniques that are not considered controversial. In no<br />
instance will the Holder attempt to biopsy a cetacean anywhere on<br />
the front half of the animal.<br />
e. For large whale disentanglements, the Holder must<br />

Approach the whales gradually to minimize or avoid any sort of<br />
startle response;<br />
Use caution when approaching mothers and calves; and<br />
For the safety of the Researchers and whales, only use individuals<br />
that have been sufficiently trained, to the satisfaction of the<br />
HolderRI, to disentangle animals.<br />
f. The HolderIPI must perform all activities and collect all samples in a<br />
humane manner.<br />
