Procurement and supply
of sustainable raw materials
When procuring raw materials, NEUSIEDLER attaches special importance to
the careful use of natural resources. A lot of effort goes into the selection of
raw and auxiliary materials that perform their functionality in the production
process while having the lowest possible impact on the environment.
h All new raw and auxiliary materials used by NEUSIEDLER require approval by
Environmental Management and Occupational Health.
h NEUSIEDLER pledges itself to use only auxiliaries that are also recommended
for paper products in contact with food, pursuant to Recommendation XXXVI
“Plastics for Food Packaging” of the BgVV – Deutsches Bundesinstitut für gesundheitlichen
Verbraucherschutz und Veterinärmedizin (Federal German Institute
for Consumer Health Protection and Veterinary Medicine).
Consistent quality assurance, ongoing assessment of suppliers in terms of
quality and ecological criteria and full integration of environmental management
into the procurement process ensure the right ecological selection.
Pulp and wood from sustainable forestry
The NEUSIEDLER Group attaches great importance to sustainability
with regard to pulp and timber, the primary raw materials for the production
of paper. In order to underline NEUSIEDLER’s commitment,
we have developed special guidelines for forestry and the procurement
of forestry products. These guidelines focus on three main
areas.
Own logging operations
h NEUSIEDLER is not only committed to complying with relevant national forestry
laws, we also aim at implementing the most suitable and sustainable forestry
practices.
h In order to ensure ecological, social and economic sustainability of our forestry
management practices, we develop and promote reliable and internationally
recognised systems for forest certification.
h If there is evidence that forests in the areas where NEUSIEDLER sources its
wood are of high ecological value, we will take all necessary measures to identify
and protect these forests.
h We engage in open communication and an active dialogue on our business
principles and improvement programmes with neighbours, customers and other
interested stakeholders such as NGOs.
