In the last few years, the mills in Hungary have made considerable progress. All other mills are in the process of installing an efficient and integrated waste management system. In the course of the ISO 14001 certification of the Hungarian mills in 2002, extensive measures for waste separation were taken and special attention was paid to the training of the staff. Szolnok reduced the share of mixed waste, i.e. non-reusable waste by 74%, Dunaújváros by 50%. Waste disposal costs have thus dropped significantly. Pulp supply 73% by rail 10% by road Dispatch of finished products 80% by road 20% by rail 17% by ship Transport Transport affects the paper industry in two ways: on the one hand in the supply of raw and auxiliary materials, predominantly wood or pulp, and on the other hand in delivering the finished goods to the customers. While NEUSIEDLER relies almost exclusively on rail and ship transport for its raw material supplies, its deliveries to the customers are essentially determined by customer convenience and flexibility in line with NEUSIEDLER’s claim to supply chain leadership. Rail transport accounts for approx. 20% of the total Group transport volume. The construction of fully automated warehouses at Theresienthal and Ruz˘omberok has led to a considerable reduction of transport routes to external stores in recent years.
