iii) The undertaking of a linear activity falling below the thresholds in Notice 544 of 2010.<br />

Item 15: Physical alteration of undeveloped, vacant or derelict land for residential, retail, commercial,<br />

recreational, industrial or institutional use where the total area to be transformed is 20 hectares or more.<br />

Item 20: Any activity which requires a mining right or renewal thereof as contemplated in section 22 and 24<br />

respectively of the Mining and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (Act 28 of 2002).<br />

As independent environmental assessment practitioners, ENVASS is responsible for:<br />

• Undertaking a comprehensive site evaluation facilitated by a site visit and desktop analysis;<br />

• Advertising, requesting that Interested and Affected Parties (I&AP’s) register their concerns;<br />

• Identifying the possible I&AP’s;<br />

• Conduct specialist studies deemed necessary / required;<br />

• Assessing the issues, impacts and alternatives; and<br />

• Compiling a detailed Scoping Report and its submission to the relevant environmental authority.<br />

• On approval of the Scoping Report, compile a draft Environmental Impact assessment report and EMPr<br />

STRUCTURE OF THE <strong>REP</strong>ORT<br />

The Draft Environmental Impact Assessment Report (D<strong>EIA</strong>R) is structured as follow:<br />

• Chapter 1 gives the assumptions and limitations under which the Draft <strong>EIA</strong>R was compiled;<br />

• Chapter 2 describes the knowledge gaps pertaining to the <strong>EIA</strong> process for the proposed development;<br />

• Chapter 3 will focus on the description of the proposed project;<br />

• Chapter 4 provides explanation of the key legal requirements;<br />

• Chapter 5 gives details of the applicant;<br />

• Chapter 6 provides explanation of the need and desirability of the proposed project by highlighting<br />

certain issues such as local employment as well as regional and local income profile;<br />

• Chapter 7 will focus on the description of the proposed project;<br />

• Chapter 8 provides a description of the receiving environment;<br />

• Chapter 9 provides a description of the environmental impact assessment process;<br />

• Chapter 10 provides the environmental impact assessment methodology;<br />

• Chapter 11 describes the alternatives which were considered during the project;<br />

• Chapter <strong>12</strong> has a summary of the recommendations as provided by the various specialists;<br />

• Chapter 13 provides a description of the environmental impacts;<br />

• Chapter 14 describes the cumulative impacts; and<br />

• Chapter 15 describes the authorisation opinion and possible mitigation measures.<br />
