About this report<br />
The <strong>2009</strong> <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> is an integrated<br />
sustainability report covering the<br />
activities of <strong>Triodos</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> nv in The<br />
Netherlands, Belgium, the uk, Spain, and<br />
Germany. The report covers the period from<br />
1 January to 31 December <strong>2009</strong>.<br />
<strong>Triodos</strong> <strong>Bank</strong>’s previous sustainability report<br />
was published in April <strong>2009</strong> and covered the<br />
2008 calendar year. The reporting in the <strong>2009</strong><br />
financial year is based on the same principles<br />
as the 2008 report. Any changes in the methods<br />
of calculation used are explained in the text.<br />
When preparing the <strong>Triodos</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> <strong>Annual</strong><br />
<strong>Report</strong>, a study group examines how the most<br />
recent sustainability reporting guidelines can<br />
be used to improve the report in the future.<br />
External experts verify the data included in this<br />
report. kpmg Accountants nv verifies the<br />
financial data in accordance with the legal<br />
requirements. There is no legal framework for<br />
the verification of the environmental and social<br />
data included in the report, although the key<br />
indicators used to measure social and environmental<br />
performance are verified by sgs International<br />
Certification Services eesv.<br />
GLOBAL REPORTING INITIATIVE<br />
<strong>Triodos</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> used the Global <strong>Report</strong>ing<br />
Initiative’s third generation (gri 3) guidelines<br />
(as published in October 2006) for the second<br />
time in the preparation of the <strong>2009</strong> <strong>Annual</strong><br />
<strong>Report</strong>. This year we will use the gri Financial<br />
Sector Supplements that have been updated in<br />
2008. <strong>Triodos</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> uses these guidelines to try<br />
and ensure a high degree of comparability<br />
between its report and those of other companies<br />
that use the gri guidelines. For more<br />
information about gri, please refer to<br />
www.globalreporting.org.<br />

gri indicators, together with references to the<br />
place in the report where this information can<br />
be found. Reference is made either to a page or<br />
a section in the report or to the <strong>Triodos</strong> <strong>Bank</strong><br />
website. Some places are marked with ‘na’,<br />
indicating that <strong>Triodos</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> regards this item<br />
as not applicable for <strong>2009</strong>. The relevance of<br />
