Pr<strong>of</strong>ile: The M<strong>in</strong>istry <strong>of</strong> Water Resources<br />

has established 27 nature reserves under<br />

its jurisdiction. The M<strong>in</strong>istry is responsible<br />

for development, utilization, and<br />

management <strong>of</strong> water resources <strong>in</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a.<br />

This <strong>in</strong>cludes responsibility for flood<br />

control and eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> dams and<br />

weirs. There are several Water Bas<strong>in</strong><br />

Commissions under the M<strong>in</strong>istry. These<br />

Commissions are empowered to develop<br />

and use water resources <strong>in</strong> each area and<br />

to coord<strong>in</strong>ate water resources management<br />

between concerned prov<strong>in</strong>ces.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>ile: The State Oceanic<br />

Adm<strong>in</strong>istration has established 11 nature<br />

reserves under its jurisdiction. The State<br />

Oceanic Adm<strong>in</strong>istration is <strong>in</strong> charge <strong>of</strong><br />

environmental monitor<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a’s<br />

oceans, coastal zone management and<br />

plann<strong>in</strong>g, and, <strong>in</strong> some areas, coastal<br />

wetlands protection.<br />
