conservation projects <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g<br />

countries, tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g for personnel who will<br />

work on <strong>in</strong>ternational nature conservation<br />

projects, and the promotion <strong>of</strong> deeper<br />

understand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> environmental issues.<br />

The KNCF supports field projects<br />

which:<br />

are <strong>in</strong> accordance with the aims <strong>of</strong><br />

the KNCF (provid<strong>in</strong>g assistance for<br />

nature conservation efforts <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g<br />

countries, particularly <strong>in</strong><br />

the <strong>Asia</strong> Pacific region), and giv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

priority to projects that will serve<br />

to enrich biodiversity;<br />

are well regarded by the host<br />

government, domestic and<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternational non-governmental<br />

conservation groups, and the local<br />

community;<br />

do not serve the <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>of</strong> any<br />

specific corporation or <strong>in</strong>dividual;<br />

and<br />

are implemented by staff and/or<br />

experts with sufficient scientific<br />

knowledge.<br />

The applicant organisation or group<br />

should:<br />

be a non-government and<br />

non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organisation;<br />

have a good record <strong>of</strong> implement<strong>in</strong>g<br />

nature conservation projects<br />

<strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g countries;<br />

be highly regarded both <strong>in</strong>ternationally<br />

and domestically;<br />

be able to reports on the project’s<br />

progress, budgetary appropriations<br />

and settlement <strong>of</strong> accounts as<br />

necessary; and<br />

it is preferable that the applicant<br />

NGO have a representative <strong>in</strong><br />

Japan that can give <strong>in</strong>formation on<br />

the applicant organisation, the<br />

project and f<strong>in</strong>ancial aspects.<br />

Alternative arrangements are<br />

acceptable, if the NGO can demonstrate<br />

technological and pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

responsiveness to KNCF<br />

requests (e.g. timely e-mail or fax<br />

responses).<br />
