Profile: The GTZ has supported many projects involving protected areas in Mongolia, including: the Nature Conservation and Buffer Zone Development Project which aims to improve the management of the Khan Khentee Strictly Protected Area, Gorkhi Tereji National Park and the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park, and to develop their buffer zones; the Integrated Fire Management Project, which aims to prevent wild land fires within the region and adequately prepare for nonpreventable wild land fires; the Sustainable Utilisation and Protection of Eastern Mongolia Steppe Biodiversity, which focuses on eastern steppe protected areas. It has also helped strengthen park administration in the eastern parks and the establishment of information and training centres.
