MINUTES: GOVERNING BOARD -STUDY SESSIONPREGULAR MEETING<br />
I. REGULAR MEETING - GENERAL FUNCTION<br />
August 23,2006 - 6:00 p.m. Location:<br />
Nathaniel <strong>Dysart</strong> Education Center<br />
1. Ms. Diana Bass, Governing Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.<br />
Board members, constituting a quorum, were present; Ms. Bass, Mr. Planeta,'Mr.<br />
Mrs. Ramirez and Mr. Otterman.<br />
2. Pledge of Allegiance<br />
The <strong>Dysart</strong> High School JROTC Color Guard presented colors ad Ms. Diana Bass led the<br />
pledge of allegiance.<br />
3. Student AwardsIPresentations<br />
The Sun City West and Surprise Rotary clubs presented the <strong>Dysart</strong> Path to Premier<br />
Rotary Teachers of the Year awards to Ms. Linda Heck, Ms. HaIey Ward, Ms<br />
Terri Smith, Ms. Emily Nachtwey and Ms. Cindy Larson. Each teacher received a<br />
plaque and check for $500.00.<br />
4. Approval of Regular <strong>Agenda</strong> Form a enf <strong>Agenda</strong><br />
A motion by BassIPlaneta was ente~ed to approve the Consent and Regular<br />
<strong>Agenda</strong> Form and temporarily suspend any Governing Board Policy with which<br />
the agenda may be inc~nsistent'as'amend~d; consent item 11.30 was moved to the<br />
action/discussion agenda and- 11.4 was pulled $on1 the agenda. UNANIMOUS<br />

5. Reports of Representatives to the GG<br />
<strong>Dysart</strong> Education Assocjation (DEA) - Ms. Nikki Frye, DEA President, reported the DEA<br />
hosted two luncheons for new and returning teachers. In addition, Ms. Frye indicated the teacher<br />
<strong>org</strong>anization is, thankful for the placement on the agenda of an item to discuss and take action on<br />
rescission of ~~oclamatidn 03-4704.<br />
<strong>Dysart</strong> Education Support Professionals (DESP) - No Report<br />
6. Board and Superintendent Update<br />
Govern~ng Board Update - Governing Board members commended teachers and adm~nistrators<br />
a job well done in preparing for the beginning of school. Teachers at new schools went above<br />
eyond the call of duty to get schools running and ready to receive students. In addition, D. L.<br />
ers-was recognized for their efforts in assisting the staff with getting the buildings ready for the<br />
first day of school.<br />
Superintendent Update - Dr. Maksimowicz, offered 111s sincere and personal thanks to staff for<br />
outstanding team effort to keep the school system moving.<br />
Staffing - Ms. Lynn Montanya, Executive Director of Human Resources and Legal Counsel,<br />
reported the district now employs 2,079 people; 546 new employees were hired for the<br />
school year. The District currently has six (6) openings in elementary schools, six (6)<br />
openings in high schools, 10.5 special education openings and 12 specials openings (music,<br />
PE, library etc).<br />
