4th IUSS Soil Classification Conference <strong>Field</strong> Tour Guidebook<br />
Stop 3 - Bellevue, Sarpy County, NE – Anthroscapes and Human-altered –transported materials<br />
(closed landfill site)<br />
• Arrive at closed Sarpy County landfill approximately 1:00pm. Unload from the buses at gate and<br />
meet just inside the gate, possibly near trees.<br />
• Very brief orientation by Ken/Cam regarding tour activities at the landfill (5 minutes)<br />
• Welcome– Duwaine Brigman, Director, Sarpy Environmental control (10 minutes)<br />
• Split participants into two groups sending each to one of the two pit sites (45 minutes/site)<br />

• Pick and Poke – (15 minutes)<br />
• Soil Classification – (10 minutes)<br />
• View and discuss this site and the soil formed in Human-altered –transported materials as well<br />
as the ICOMANTH Circular 7 proposals regarding surface mantle of new soil material and buried<br />
soils (summary attached at the end) for approximately 1 hour. (Anthropogenic soils classification<br />
discussions - No soil series identified)<br />
Site 3b- Original surface – (south pit) – (Pit boss – Joe Chiaretti)<br />
• Photographs of pit – (10 minutes)<br />
• Discussion of site and Human-altered –transported materials – (10 minutes)<br />
• Pick and Poke – (15 minutes)<br />
• Soil Classification – (10 minutes)<br />
• View and discuss this site and the soil formed in Human-altered –transported materials as well<br />
as the ICOMANTH Circular 7 proposals (summary attached at the end) for approximately 1 hour.<br />
