Kenneth (Ken) F. Scheffe<br />

Ken is a Soil Scientist on the Soil Survey Standards Staff at the National Soil Survey Center in Lincoln, NE.<br />

He is the liaison to the MLRA Regions of the soil survey program and serves as laboratory investigations<br />

liaison to MO Region 9. Ken has served as the national coordinator of the Rapid Carbon Assessment<br />

Project since 2011 assists in the update and maintenance of NCSS soil survey standards and technical<br />

documents.<br />

He came to the NSSC after serving 31 years as soil scientist in New Mexico, 15 years of which were as<br />

State Soil Scientist. He has BS and MS degrees from Texas <strong>Tech</strong> University in Soil Science and is member<br />

of the Soil Science Society of America, and the Soil and Water Conservation Society.<br />

Daniel R. Shurtliff<br />

Daniel R. Shurtliff was born in Casper, Wyoming in 1954. He attended the University of <strong>Nebraska</strong>-Lincoln<br />

and received a bachelor’s degree in Soil Science in 1977. His professional career has been spent with<br />

USDA-NRCS. Dan performed <strong>Field</strong> Soil Survey work in <strong>Nebraska</strong>, Montana, Florida and South Korea<br />

between 1977 and 1998. He authored the Soil Surveys of Garfield, Loup and Blaine Counties in<br />

<strong>Nebraska</strong>, and Sweet Grass County in Montana. In 1998 Dan became the Assistant State Soil Scientist of<br />

South Dakota. In 2010, he became the Assistant State Soil Scientist of <strong>Nebraska</strong>.<br />
