I then decided what indexes I would create. I wanted reasonably comprehensive
tables of cases – a separate table for UK cases (including English,
Scottish and Northern Irish cases), for EU cases (both alphabetical and by
number), for international cases, and for other cases. I decided to send ECHR
cases to the international cases index.
\makeindex[name=ukcases, intoc=true,
title={Table of UK Cases}]
\makeindex[name=eucasesa, intoc=true,
title={Table of EU Cases (Alphabetical)}]
\makeindex[name=eucasesn, intoc=true,
title={Table of EU Cases (Numerical)}]
\makeindex[name=intcases, intoc=true,
title={Table of International Cases}]
\makeindex[name=ocases, intoc=true,
title={Table of Cases from Other Jurisdictions}]
I decided to have just two tables of legislation: one for all UK legislation
(primary and secondary, including court rules), and one for EU legislation.
\makeindex[name=ukleg, intoc=true,
title={Table of UK Legislation}]
\makeindex[name=euleg, intoc=true,
title={Table EU Legislation and Treaties}]
I decided to have a table of treaties.
\makeindex[name=treaties, intoc=true,
title={Table of Treaties}]
And finally I decided to have a table of ‘Parliamentary Material’, to which
I would send draft legislation and all other UK Parliamentary material, such
as Hansard.
\makeindex[name=pmats, intoc=true,
title={Parliamentary Material and Draft Legislation}]
With those indexes defined, I could not ‘hook them up’. All the UK cases
go to the ukcases index.
\DeclareIndexAssociation{gbcases}{ukcases}% Supreme Court
\DeclareIndexAssociation{encases}{ukcases}% England
\DeclareIndexAssociation{sccases}{ukcases}% Scotland
\DeclareIndexAssociation{nicases}{ukcases}% Northern Ireland
And the EU cases get sent to the alphabetically and numerically organised
indexes as appropriate.
\DeclareIndexAssociation{eucases}{eucasesa}% Alphabetical
\DeclareIndexAssociation{eucasesnum}{eucasesn}% Numeric
ECHR and international cases are both sent to a single index, intcases
