MALIA PATRICE KAMAKA, West Hawai‘i Commissioner<br />

TERM: 2005–2009<br />

Malia Ka<strong>ma</strong>ka is currently a customer service representative with the<br />

Hawai‘i Electric Light Company. She is a member of the Waimea<br />

Community Association, and a member of the Kawaihae Canoe<br />

Club. Ka<strong>ma</strong>ka graduated from Kamehameha Schools and received<br />

a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Portland.<br />

FRANCIS KAHOU LUM, O‘ahu Commissioner<br />

TERM: 2006–2010<br />

Francis Lum has the distinction of having served as the Chief of<br />

Protocol for five of Hawai‘i’s governors, dating back to Governor<br />

John Burns in 1967 and including current Governor Linda Lingle.<br />

He is the acknowledged expert on government protocol procedures,<br />

having planned and organized visits to Hawai‘i by heads of state from<br />

<strong>ma</strong>ny nations around the world. He served more than 40 years as a<br />

member of the Hawai‘i National Guard, including 1 year of active duty service in Vietnam retiring<br />

with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer W4. Lum was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and also the<br />

Army Commendation Medal for his tour of duty in Vietnam. In 2000, Lum received the Order of<br />

the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon from the Consulate General of Japan - it is the<br />

highest recognition bestowed on individuals who have played a significant role in strengthening the<br />

bonds and friendship with Japan.<br />

TRISH MORIKAWA, O‘ahu Commissioner<br />

TERM: 2007–2011<br />

Trish Morikawa is currently employed as a Deputy Prosecutor with the<br />

Prosecuting Attorney’s Office of the City and County of Honolulu.<br />

She was formerly a Deputy Attorney General with the State Attorney<br />

General’s Office. Morikawa is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools,<br />

and received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania,<br />

and a law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law at<br />

the University of Hawai‘i. She was first appointed in 2003 and reconfirmed<br />

in 2007.<br />
