The regional plans are developed by Beneficiary<br />

Consultation in conjunction with lessees of<br />

the region as well as regional sta<strong>ke</strong>holders<br />

(landowners, agencies, other organizations) by<br />

identifying issues and opportunities, developing<br />

solutions in the form of potential projects,<br />

and then determining the top priority projects<br />

for the region. The approval of regional plans<br />

by the Hawaiian Homes Commission aligns<br />

Departmental support for homestead community<br />

priorities.<br />

There are 20 regional plans in development<br />

statewide. The Hawaiian Homes Commission<br />

approved the following regional plans in<br />

Community Center Complex<br />

• A grant of $48,450 to Maku‘u Farmers<br />

Association to assist in the implementation<br />

of the first phase of the Maku‘u<br />

Community Center<br />

MAUI<br />

• A grant of $250,000 to La‘i ‘Ōpua 2020 to<br />

fund planning and feasibility for community<br />

economic development projects<br />

• A grant of $48,450 to Waiohuli Hawaiian<br />

Homesteaders Association, Inc. to assist<br />

in the pre-design phase of the community<br />

center and park site<br />

• Partnered with the Trust for Public Lands<br />

to negotiate the acquisition of approxi<strong>ma</strong>tely<br />

64 acres of Ka‘ehu Bay, Paukūkalo,<br />
