SANDWICH ISLES COMMUNICATIONS, INC. ACCOMPLISHMENTS Sandwich Isles Communications, Inc. (SIC) continues to work closely with DHHL’s LMD and LDD in the planning, design and construction of its residential developments and commercial projects statewide. SIC is responsible for the cost of design and construction of all telecommunications infrastructure which service new projects on Hawaiian home lands. This includes installation of underground ducts, handholes and <strong>ma</strong>nholes, underground cabling and miscellaneous telephone equipment. SIC is committed to providing DHHL with the highest quality of service and therefore is the first service provider in the state to install fiber optic cabling to each residential home. In 2009, SIC completed its inter-island fiber optic cabling linking the islands of Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Moloka‘i, Maui and Hawai‘i. The project is operational and included over 348 miles of fiber optic cable installation on land and in the ocean, along with three new terminal buildings at Kekaha, Kaua‘i, Pu‘unene, Maui and Pu‘ukapu, Hawai‘i. The buildings house SIC’s fiber optic terminals allowing them to light their fiber optic cable between islands SIC is now working on upgrading and replacement of copper wiring with fiber optic cable to the residential lots not serviced with fiber optic cables. SIC now services over 2,000 customers on Hawaiian home lands. 52 | DHHL ANNUAL REPORT 2010
